Managed Services Sales professionals primarily focus on selling ongoing managed IT services and building long-term client relationships, often requiring industry-specific certifications. In contrast, IT Sales Representatives typically sell a variety of IT products and solutions, with a focus on transactional sales. Both roles require sales skills and technical knowledge but differ in scope and client engagement.

What is Managed Services Sales?

Managed Services Sales involves selling comprehensive IT solutions where a provider manages and oversees a client's IT systems or infrastructure on an ongoing basis. Sales professionals in this field work with businesses to identify their technology needs and offer tailored managed services contracts, which can include network management, cybersecurity, cloud services, and more. The goal is to enable clients to focus on their core business while the provider ensures reliable and secure IT operations. Success in this role requires understanding both technical offerings and the specific needs of each client.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in Managed Services Sales, and how can they be addressed?

Professionals in Managed Services Sales often encounter challenges such as educating clients about the value of managed services, navigating complex decision-making chains within client organizations, and differentiating their offerings in a competitive market. To address these challenges, successful sales professionals focus on building strong client relationships, staying up-to-date on industry trends, and working closely with technical and delivery teams to tailor solutions that align with client needs. Regular training and collaboration with internal subject matter experts also help in articulating value propositions and overcoming objections more effectively.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Managed Services Sales professional, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Managed Services Sales professional, you need a solid understanding of IT solutions, sales strategies, and market analysis, often supported by a degree in business or technology-related fields. Familiarity with CRM platforms like Salesforce, IT service management tools, and relevant sales certifications such as CompTIA or Cisco are commonly required. Strong interpersonal skills, consultative selling abilities, and effective negotiation are crucial soft skills for building client relationships and closing deals. These competencies enable professionals to identify client needs, tailor solutions, and secure long-term business growth in a competitive marketplace.

Job description

Managed Services Sales Executive
GPL Technologies is a 22-year-old technology services company with a strong reputation for reliability, long-term client relationships, and high customer satisfaction. For the past 15 years, we have been delivering managed services to demanding clients, primarily in media and entertainment. Some of our original clients are still with us today, which speaks to the quality of our service, our team, and the trust we build over time.
We are now entering a new phase of growth.
With a team of 50 professionals and only one dedicated salesperson today, we are looking for a driven, strategic, and relationship-oriented Managed Services Sales Executive to help expand our managed services business beyond media and entertainment into new verticals.
This is an opportunity for a proven seller who knows how to open doors, build trust, and close recurring services business in a highly competitive market.
What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Generate new business opportunities for managed IT and technology services
  • Expand our reach beyond media and entertainment into new industries and client segments
  • Own the sales process from prospecting through close
  • Build and manage a healthy pipeline of qualified opportunities
  • Develop relationships with decision-makers including CEOs, CFOs, IT leaders, and operations executives
  • Work closely with leadership and technical teams to position solutions that align with client needs
  • Help refine our go-to-market strategy, messaging, and sales process as we grow
  • Represent a company with a long track record, strong client retention, and high CSAT
What Weโ€™re Looking For
  • Experience selling managed services, IT services, MSP solutions, or recurring technology services
  • Strong hunter mentality with the ability to create opportunities, not just manage inbound leads
  • Confidence selling to mid-market and growth-oriented businesses
  • Ability to understand client pain points and translate them into practical service solutions
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and closing skills
  • Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment where you can help shape the sales function
  • Experience selling into multiple industries is a plus
  • Existing network and book of business is a plus
Why Join GPL Technologies
  • 22-year-old company with an established reputation
  • 15 years of managed services delivery experience
  • Strong customer satisfaction and long-tenured clients
  • Team of 50 with deep technical and operational expertise
  • Real opportunity to make an impact and help shape the next stage of growth
  • Support from leadership in building a scalable sales engine
  • Opportunity to expand a respected company into new markets
About the Opportunity
This role is ideal for someone who wants more than just another sales job. We are looking for a builder. Someone who wants to help grow a proven managed services business into new industries while representing a company with real credibility, long-standing clients, and a strong service foundation.
If you know how to sell managed services and want to be part of a company with an excellent reputation and significant room for growth, we would like to hear from you.
