Job description

Major Gift Officer - Full Time (Salaried) Hybrid
Exempt/Non-Exempt Status: This position shall be exempt from overtime as defined under the Department of Labor’s 2004 revised Fair Labor Standards Act.
Basic Function: Develop long-term relationships with major donors which mature into significant contributions to the Sisters of St. Benedict. Manage a portfolio of at least 150 major donors from identification, cultivation, solicitation to stewardship. Solicit funding as outlined by the mission advancement strategic plan.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards donor portfolio
  2. Recognizes and stewards major donors, strengthening their commitment and ensuring continued revenue (educates, involves).
  3. Informs donors about the Sisters of St. Benedict’s mission and ministries and how their gifts are being used.
  4. Motivates donors to make the Sisters of St. Benedict their organization of choice for major and planned gifts.
  5. Develops and manages a portfolio of current and prospective major donors by making telephone calls, and personal visits.
  6. Works with the Administration and Mission Advancement Staff (also EAC committee, Mission Advancement Board, current major donors, and others) to grow the major donor program; involves these groups in planning, donor identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship.
  7. Coordinates the recruitment of development of campaign volunteers, coaches, and supports their efforts.
  8. Develops and maintains volunteer leadership and participation through ongoing communication, support, and acknowledgement.
Additional Responsibilities:
  1. Attends workshops and belongs to professional organizations to keep informed about changes in planned gifts tax considerations, and programming.
  2. Attends major events, visits funeral homes, and conducts regular correspondence to represent the Sisters of St. Benedict and the Mission Advancement Office.
  3. Travels to donors as needed and is available to them evenings and weekends as needed
  4. Works with major gift team to evaluate portfolios and donor ability, interest and linkage.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned that benefit the Mission Advancement Team.
Knowledge:
  1. Requires knowledge of various ways of making major and planned gifts, campaign giving and the tax implications for estate planning.
  2. Understands the major gift program in relation to the total Mission Advancement Program. Understands theoretical and practical aspects of donor-centered fundraising.
  3. Has a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, can use online platforms and is able to attend/facilitate virtual meetings and events.
  4. Is a self-starter and can show initiative in the work environment.
Education and Experience: A formal 4-year degree from a college or university, or an equivalent in-depth specialized training program that is directly related to the type of work being performed, such as the CFRM credentials, Fundraising School, certification as a CFE, Minimum B.S./B.A.. Prefer Master’s Degree. Over five years comparable experience.
Physical Demands: Job is physically comfortable; individual is normally seated and has discretion about walking, standing, etc. May occasionally lift very lightweight objects. Lots of traveling is involved in this work.
