Maintenance Mechanic - 2nd Shift

Job Summary/Objective:
 The Maintenance Mechanic is responsible for performing mechanical and electrical repairs, as well as preventive maintenance on food processing equipment, building utilities, and facility systems. This role ensures optimal performance and reliability of equipment while adhering to safety and food manufacturing standards.

Essential Functions:

  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Perform daily and weekly equipment startups, ensuring smooth operations.
    • Set up production lines and make necessary equipment tooling changes.
    • Troubleshoot and repair a range of process equipment, including mixers, depositors, metal detectors, conveyors, shrink film equipment, printers, labelers, and scales.
    • Conduct preventive maintenance to maintain equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Facility Maintenance:
    • Perform daily inspections of refrigeration equipment, roof areas, utility rooms, and other critical facility spaces.
    • Respond promptly to maintenance calls from various production departments, providing support and troubleshooting assistance.
  • Compliance and Documentation:
    • Follow company procedures and safety protocols while performing all tasks.
    • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities and repairs.

Competencies:

  • Proficient in mechanical and electrical repairs.
  • Ability to diagnose and replace mechanical components (e.g., bearings, shafts, chains, v-belts).
  • Skilled in troubleshooting electrical failures and replacing components (e.g., 3-phase motors, fuses, relays).
  • Understanding of programmable logic controllers (PLCs) for troubleshooting (programming not required).
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities. Works collaboratively with the maintenance team and production staff.

Work Environment:

  • Indoor manufacturing environment.
  • Exposure to noise, machinery, and varying temperatures.
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols and use of personal protective equipment.

Physical Demands:

  • Ability to stand and walk on concrete floors for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, lifting (up to 50 lbs.), twisting, and climbing ladders (up to 30 feet high).

Position Type:

  • Full-Time

Work Hours:

  • 2nd Shift - Monday - Friday: 6:00pm - 2:30am and flexibility for extra hours during weekdays, weekends and holidays.
  • May include weekend shifts as needed to support maintenance and production activities.

Travel: Minimal to none.

Required Education & Experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent vocational training.
  • Relevant experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing environment.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Certification or experience in waste water operations and ammonia refrigeration.
  • HVAC Technician License.
  • Basic plumbing and welding knowledge.
  • Experience with food manufacturing equipment and processes.

Additional Desired Skills and Experience (Not required):

  • Forklift operator certification and experience.
  • Advanced skills in reading and interpreting electrical drawings and schematics.
  • Familiarity with electrical troubleshooting tools (e.g., multi-meters, voltage testers, amperage testers).
