Job description

Job Title: Sanitation Helper

Full-Time position - 40 hours per week

Schedule: Monday through Friday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm

Salary: $20.00/hr. to $22.00/hr

Leisure World of Maryland Corporation (LWMC) the property management company for Leisure World of Maryland a private, age-restricted community comprised of 29 housing associations and 8,000 residents located in Montgomery County, Maryland seeks a full-time Sanitation Helper to assist in the collection of solid waste and recyclable materials ensuring that safety and quality customer service standards are met.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & BASIC DUTIES:

  • Safely operates automated or semi-automated hoisting devices that raise refuse bins and dump contents into openings in truck bodies.
  • Performs pre- inspection of vehicle to ensure safe operating condition.
  • Operates equipment that compresses collect refuse.
  • Safely lifts and load refuse/recycling completely empty trash/recycling receptacles into vehicle, leaving area clean of debris, while monitoring waste for evidence of unacceptable materials.
  • Replaces recycling receptacles nearly at the curb or designated area.
  • Dump refuse or recyclable materials at disposal site.
  • Dismount garbage trucks to collect garbage and remount truck to ride to the next collection point.
  • Refuels trucks or add other fluids, such as oil or brake fluid.
  • Fill out defective equipment reports.
  • Communicate with dispatcher concerning delays, unsafe sites, accidents, equipment breakdowns, or other maintenance problems.
  • Cleans trucks as scheduled/required.
  • Tag garbage or recycling containers to inform customers of problems such as excess garbage or inclusion of items that are not permitted.
  • Sort items set out for recycling and place materials into designated truck compartments.
  • Make special pickups of recyclables materials, such as food scraps, used oil, discarded computers, or other electronic items.
  • Courteously interacts with customers, both internal and external, ensuring customers are serviced in a professional and timely manner.
  • All other duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

In addition to the Leisure World of Maryland Corporation (LWMC) staff and contract personnel, the Sanitation Helper principal working relationships are employees of LWMC and the community residents.

EDUCATION

HS Diploma/GED-Preferred.
