Job description

Job Title: Maintenance Specialist

Reports to: Director of Operations

Location: Heritage Behavioral Health Center - Decatur and Clinton, IL (Macon and DeWitt Counties)

Schedule: 8a-5p; Mondayโ€“Friday. Occasional weekend work may be required.

Work Setting: In-Person; on-site across multiple Heritage facility locations

Position Overview:

Heritage Behavioral Health Center (HBHC) is a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) providing comprehensive behavioral health and primary care services to individuals and families across central Illinois. We are seeking a reliable and skilled Maintenance Specialist to ensure our facilities remain safe, functional, and welcoming for the staff and individuals we serve.

As a Maintenance Specialist, you will perform routine maintenance, repairs, and inspections across our Decatur and Clinton facilities in Macon and DeWitt Counties. You will work closely with the Director of Operations and Safety team to ensure a secure, compliant, and well-maintained environment. At Heritage, we recognize that every role โ€” regardless of title โ€” directly impacts the individuals we serve. A safe, functional facility is foundational to the quality of care we provide.

Leadership & Team Expectations

  • Take pride inmaintaininga safe, clean, and functional environment for staff, clients, and visitors at all Heritage locations
  • Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and strong follow-through on all assigned maintenance tasks and work orders
  • Communicate proactively with the Director of Operations and Safety teamregardingfacility concerns, supply needs, or compliance issues
  • Collaborate respectfully with staff across all departments and represent Heritageโ€™s mission and values in every interaction
  • Take initiative toidentifyand address facility issues before they are reported

Core Responsibilities:

Facility Maintenance & Repairs

  • Perform general maintenance and repair tasks across all Heritage facilities, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry
  • Conduct routine building inspections and complete preventive maintenance on schedule
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requestssubmittedthrough the Maintenance email system
  • Proactivelyidentifyfacility issues and address them before they are formally reported
  • Assistwith general cleaning of Heritageโ€™s main facility and provide support at off-site locations as needed

Grounds & Seasonal Responsibilities

  • Perform snow and ice removal during inclement weather tomaintainsafe access to all Heritage facilities
  • Maintain building exteriors and groundsin accordance withagency standards

Compliance & Safety

  • Assist the Director of Operations in ensuring all Heritage buildingscomply withOSHA and CARF facility standards
  • Document all maintenance activities accurately and report issues to leadershipin a timely manner
  • Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including proper use of tools and personal protective equipment

Logistics & Vendor Support

  • Pick up orders from outside vendors and deliver supplies or other items to off-site Heritage locations as needed
  • Coordinate with vendors and contractors as directed by the Director of Operations
  • Perform other duties as assignedconsistentwith this role

The Maintenance Specialist will be successful in this role when:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of general building maintenance including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry
  • Familiarity with OSHA safety standards, preventive maintenance principles, and routine building inspection processes
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills; ability to diagnose and resolve issues independently
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple work orders and tasks simultaneously
  • Excellent attention to detail and proactive approach toidentifyingfacility issues
  • Strong communicationand collaboration skills; ability to work effectively with staff across all departments
  • Ability to lift 25+ pounds regularly; occasional heavy lifting and power tool operationrequired
  • Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions

Education and Experience:

  • High school diploma or GEDrequired
  • Prior commercial or institutional maintenance experience preferred
  • Vocational training or certification in a relevant trade (plumbing, electrical, HVAC, or carpentry) preferred
  • Valid driverโ€™s license, reliable transportation, and proof of current automobile insurancerequired

Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, climbing, and sustained physical activity throughout each shift
  • Must be able to lift 25+ pounds regularly; occasional heavy lifting and power tool operationrequired
  • Exposure to both indoor and outdoor environmental conditions, including inclement weather
  • Regular use of hand and power tools, maintenance equipment, and cleaning chemicals; proper PPErequired
  • Valid driverโ€™s licenserequired; travel between Heritage facility locations in Macon and DeWitt Countiesrequired
  • Must adhere to all Heritage policies, procedures, and safety standards

Compensation & Benefits

Salary Range: $18.00โ€“$24.00 per hour ($37,440โ€“$49,920 annually), based on education and experience.
