Position: GDPS Implementation Engineer
Location: Plano, Texas, Tampa, FL, Jersey City, NJ or Columbus, OH (5 days onsite)
Duration: 6 to 12 months contract with high possibility of conversion
Job Overview:
  • Client is seeking a skilled and motivated GDPS Implementation Engineer to join our Mainframe Engineering team.
  • The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, deployment, configuration, and support of IBM Geographically Dispersed Parallel Sysplex (GDPS) solutions, ensuring high availability, disaster recovery, and business continuity for our critical mainframe environments.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement GDPS solutions (Metro, Global Mirror, Metro Global Mirror, LCP, Test Copy Manager) to meet business RTO/RPO objectives.
  • Install, configure, and maintain IBM Z NetView and IBM System Automation for z/OS as part of the GDPS automation stack.
  • Configure and manage IBM DS8000 storage systems, including Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, FlashCopy, and Safeguarded Copy technologies.
  • Develop and maintain GDPS scripts for automation of planned and unplanned actions, system recovery, and site switch scenarios.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot GDPS environments using NetView panels, GDPS GUI, and Status Display Facility (SDF).
  • Participate in disaster recovery testing, failover/failback exercises, and continuous availability drills.
  • Collaborate with storage, network, and mainframe teams to ensure end-to-end resiliency and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Document configurations, procedures, and best practices for GDPS environments.
  • Provide technical support and training to operations and support teams.
Required Skills and Experience:
  • 10 plus years of experience with IBM mainframe environments, including z/OS, Parallel Sysplex, and data sharing.
  • Hands-on experience with IBM GDPS solutions (Metro, Global Mirror, MGM, or LCP).
  • Strong knowledge of IBM Z NetView and IBM System Automation for z/OS.
  • Experience with IBM DS8000 storage systems, including configuration of Metro Mirror, Global Mirror, FlashCopy, and Safeguarded Copy.
  • Familiarity with IBM Z hardware management (HMC/SE, BCPii), LPAR management, and Capacity on Demand (CBU, OOCoD).
  • Scripting skills (REXX, NetView command language, or equivalent) for automation and recovery workflows.
  • Understanding of disaster recovery concepts (RTO, RPO, consistency groups, failover/failback).
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting tools (NetView SDF, GDPS GUI, Health Checker).
  • Knowledge of cross-site connectivity technologies (FICON, FCP, channel extenders).
  • Familiarity with security and role-based access controls (RACF, ACF2).
  • Excellent troubleshooting, documentation, and communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with GDPS MGM4SITE in Mainframe Environments.
  • Exposure to Logical Corruption Protection (LCP) and Testcopy Manager (TCM).
  • Experience with IBM TS7700 tape virtualization and replication.
  • Familiarity with GDPS RESTful APIs and integration with external automation/orchestration tools.
  • IBM or vendor certifications in mainframe, storage, or resiliency technologies.
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Note:
  • This role may require participation in on-call rotation and occasional off-hours work for DR testing or planned maintenance.

Pay Range: $65 - $75/h on W2 (No C2C or 1099)
