Mainframe Capacity Planning Engineer
Location: Hybrid - CTH
Position Overview
Seeking an experienced Mainframe Capacity Planning Engineer to support enterprise infrastructure planning and performance analysis. This role focuses on analyzing mainframe utilization, forecasting resource demand, and producing meaningful reporting that supports strategic infrastructure planning and technology governance.
Key Responsibilities
  • Analyze mainframe resource utilization across multiple LPARs, identifying trends, performance patterns, and capacity risks.
  • Produce recurring capacity planning reports and executive-level presentations for technology leadership.
  • Develop resource forecasts by combining infrastructure metrics with business volume data.
  • Perform statistical analysis, including trend analysis, regression modeling, forecasting, and outlier detection to support infrastructure planning.
  • Evaluate CPU, memory, and storage utilization across application environments.
  • Partner with engineering and infrastructure teams to support capacity planning initiatives and stress testing activities.
  • Generate documentation, technical reports, and business requirements supporting governance, audit, and compliance initiatives.
  • Validate and maintain performance data collected from mainframe sources including SMF, RMF, CICS, DB2, MQ, and related system components.
  • Support ongoing maintenance of MICS/MXG environments, including updates required for new hardware platforms and z/OS releases.
  • Contribute to chargeback reporting, capacity forecasting, and long-term infrastructure planning efforts.
  • Collaborate with technical and business stakeholders to improve reporting accuracy and planning methodologies.
Required Qualifications
  • 8+ years of experience supporting IBM mainframe environments.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise mainframe capacity planning or performance engineering.
  • Strong SAS programming and analytical experience.
  • Experience with MICS or MXG performance reporting tools.
  • Knowledge of IBM mainframe technologies including z/OS, LPARs, CECs, JCL, and automated scheduling.
  • Experience analyzing SMF, RMF, CICS, DB2, MQ, and other mainframe performance data.
  • Strong analytical, statistical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience developing forecasts, capacity models, and executive reporting.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
