Job description

Fountain Valley School, a selective and diverse boarding school, educates 220 students in grades 8–12 on a beautiful 1,100-acre campus in Colorado Springs, CO. Founded in 1930, the School provides a rigorous, global curriculum in academics, arts, athletics and the outdoors.

Position Summary:

The Mailroom Attendant is responsible for the accurate and timely receipt, sorting, processing, and distribution of incoming and outgoing mail, packages, and interoffice correspondence. This position maintains an organized, secure, and efficient mailroom while providing exceptional customer service to students and FVS employees. The role requires strong attention to detail, confidentiality, organization, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. The schedule is based on mailroom operational needs and may vary throughout the year.

Key Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Receive, sort, time-stamp, log, and distribute incoming mail, packages, and interoffice correspondence.
  • Notify students and employees when packages are available for pickup.
  • Assist students with preparing packages and affix postage their packages.
  • Track incoming and outgoing shipments and maintain accurate mail and package logs.
  • Respond to mailroom inquiries and requests in a timely, courteous, and professional manner.
  • Operate and maintain mailroom equipment, reporting any equipment issues as needed.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, secure, and well-stocked mailroom.
  • Assist with increased mailroom operations during holidays, student arrivals, departures, and other peak periods.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of mail, packages, and sensitive information.
  • Coordinate with shipping carriers and vendors as needed.
  • Create and maintain employee and student mailbox assignments, including new employee mailbox setup and updates throughout the year.
  • Coordinate with Human Resources to process mail forwarding for departing employees, including obtaining forwarding addresses, preparing forwarding labels, and ensuring mail is redirected appropriately.
  • Serve as a positive representative of Fountain Valley School by maintaining professional interactions with students, parents, FVS employees and the public.
  • Maintain regular, reliable, and in-person attendance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Ability to accurately process, route, and distribute confidential and sensitive mail and packages.
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and exceptional attention to detail.
  • Ability to prioritize work, manage multiple tasks, and adapt to changing priorities.

  • Valid Colorado driver's license, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.

  • Experience working in an independent or boarding/day school environment is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors with occasional outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Physical demands: Frequent standing and walking throughout the shift. Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull packages weighing up to 50 pounds on a regular basis. Frequent bending, reaching, stooping, and repetitive hand movements.
  • Working Relationships: Regular interaction with students, parents/guardians, alumni, faculty, staff, shipping carriers, outside vendors, and other members of the School community. Must maintain professional, courteous, and service-oriented relationships while handling confidential information.
  • Scheduling: Approximately 20 hours per week, typically scheduled in four-hour shifts. Schedule is based on mailroom operational needs and is subject to change with approval from the Operations Manager. May include nights and weekends and holidays.

Salary: $17.00, per hour
