Evaluation Period: Annual performance evaluations if the student works the entire academic year. If the student works one semester, the performance evaluation will be completed after that semester
Purpose: The Department of Building & Grounds at Mount St. Joseph University invites applications for a Mail Room clerk position. This position administers the mailroom shipping and receiving, including dock management, supervision of inventory until delivery, and ensuring accuracy in the everyday receiving and handling of deliveries. THIS POSITION IS FOR TUESDAY & THURSDAY, between 11-3:00, flexible on 3 hour window.
  • Process incoming and outgoing mail including packages and truck shipments.
  • Pick up and deliver incoming, outgoing and inner-office mail, and copier paper throughout the University one (or more) day each week.
  • Receive and log letters and packages arriving via couriers as well as other shipping services. This includes proper notification of College personnel receiving shipments.
  • Track shipments and deliveries. Requires ability to use appropriate Mail Center software.
  • Retrieve items from the University's in-house storage as needed. May require handling boxes weighing up to 70 pounds.
  • Prioritize, sort and deliver mail and overnight letters and packages.
  • Ensure requests are being processed and completed in a timely, efficient manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Work Requirements
  • Currently enrolled student at Mount St. Joseph University
  • Work-study eligible preferred but not required
  • Ability to work on own initiative, independently, and to deadlines
  • Preferred hours 2-3 hours between 12:00 am-3:00pm daily; job sharing allowed, days determined as needed, Monday-Friday.
  • Well organized, punctual, and reliable
  • The ability to communicate sensitively and tactfully, both orally and in writing, with individuals at all levels within the University
  • High school or equivalent (Required)
  • Must be courteous, dependable and detail-oriented.
  • Must be able to prioritize work and meet deadlines.
  • Familiar with basic office software applications, including Microsoft programs; Outlook, Word and Excel.
  • Demonstrated ability to set own priorities, to follow through on assignments without supervision.
  • Will be trained to be proficient in the use of mail processing and office equipment.
  • Postal Machines (or similar), personal computer, and photocopy machine.
Physical Qualifications
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, and kneel frequently.
  • Must be able to lift packages up to 50 -70 pounds frequently.
  • Must be able to spend a large part of the day standing up and moving around.
  • Must be able to push and pull with steady force
