Job description

Job Title: Facility Custodian
FLSA: Non-exempt
Status: Full-time or Part-time
Reports to: Director of Facilities
Job purpose: To perform cleaning duties throughout the museum
Time Allocation: Hours vary, must be able to work on weekends and occasional holidays
Expectation of Employee
  • Act in an honest, mature, and professional manner at all times;
  • Treat our visitors and co-workers with respect and courtesy;
  • Avoid any situation that may create or appear to create a conflict between our personal interests and the interests of The Magic House;
  • Safeguard the property of The Magic House through care and respect and avoid waste and abuse;
  • Report to work on time and with a can-do attitude;
  • Keep timely and accurate financial, attendance, and program records;
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Clean designated areas of The Magic House including restrooms, public areas, employee break rooms, and the Picnic Basket Cafe;
  • Perform tasks including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, sweeping, washing windows, and removing and disposing of trash and recycled materials in appropriate receptacles;
  • Follow the Museum’s cleaning protocol when performing these duties;
  • Stock and maintain supplies and cleaning cart when applicable;
  • Interact with guests in a friendly manner, answer questions, and provide good customer service;
  • Work with custodial team to provide a safe, attractive, clean, and customer-focused environment;
  • Support our MADE for Kids location with custodial assistance if needed;
  • On occasion, perform deep cleaning tasks;
  • Regular job attendance;
  • Participates in trainings as required by the organization;
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • At least one year experience in a janitorial or cleaning environment;
  • Good verbal and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Good customer service skills: helpful, friendly, and patient attitude;
  • Work effectively as a team member as well as independently;
  • Able to multitask with a high level of output and detail;
  • Be self-motivated and energetic;
  • Demonstrate good judgement with the ability to solve problems by weighing and evaluating options;
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.;
