Job description

Job Summary

Mallard Manufacturing, a MacLean-Fogg Company, is hiring an Engineering Technician - CAD Design at our Sterling, IL facility. In this role, you will support the design, testing, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment while helping improve automation, equipment reliability, and production performance. You will combine hands-on troubleshooting with engineering support across machinery, inspections, repairs, and process improvements.

  • Location: Sterling, IL

  • Work Arrangement: On-site

  • Schedule: 1st Shift, Monday-Friday, 8:00 AM-4:30 PM

  • Pay: $20-$24/hour

  • Employment Type: Full-time / Hourly

What You'll Do as an Engineering Technician
  • Support the design, development, production, testing, operation, and maintenance of mechanical equipment, machinery, and tools under the direction of engineering staff.

  • Set up, adjust, and operate production machinery as needed, performing routine tests, inspections, and adjustments to support safe and efficient manufacturing.

  • Perform routine equipment maintenance, troubleshoot malfunctions, identify potential issues before they cause downtime, and assist with modifications and repairs using basic hand tools, power tools, and equipment.

  • Collaborate with engineering teams on automation improvements, machine installations, calibrations, and manufacturing layout changes.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, specifications, and shop orders to determine machine setup and operating requirements.

  • Help design, fabricate, and assemble new or modified mechanical components for machinery, tools, and equipment, and assist with testing and prototyping for new products or processes.

  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, inspections, and machine settings, and report equipment issues, maintenance activities, and performance data to engineering staff and management.

  • Follow safety, environmental, quality, and regulatory requirements while maintaining clean and organized work areas in accordance with 5S principles.

What You'll BringRequired Qualifications
  • Education: Special Program.

  • 0-2 years of relevant experience in a similar engineering or technical role, with a strong willingness to learn.

  • Basic understanding of mechanical systems, machinery, and troubleshooting, with analytical skills to identify and resolve basic mechanical issues.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering specifications, blueprints, and shop orders.

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to follow verbal and written directions.

  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, adapt to changing environments, learn new technical skills, prioritize work, and meet deadlines.

  • Ability to perform work accurately so machinery setups and repairs meet applicable specifications.

  • Strong understanding of safety protocols and commitment to maintaining a safe work environment.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an on-site role at Mallard Manufacturing, a MacLean-Fogg Company, in a manufacturing environment involving production machinery, mechanical equipment, tools, testing, inspections, machine installations, maintenance, and repairs. Employees in this role are expected to follow applicable safety, environmental, quality, company, and regulatory requirements and maintain organized work areas in accordance with 5S principles.
