Job description

Join Our Team as a Shop Services Technician - Coolant at Epiroc!
Primary responsibility for this position is to support manufacturing employees and line management with functioning equipment (as regards coolant condition) to operate production on an optimal basis. Overall responsibilities include maintenance of coolant in all equipment, periodic checks of Fire Extinguishers, Filter replacement on all machines, check fire sprinkler valves. Check emergency lights and other work as a helper required by the department manager. This person will also function as a backup to our Maintenance personnel and will need to be skilled in light machine work.
Work Type: This position will be based onsite at our Milwaukie, OR facility. This job opening is not eligible for immigration/work visa sponsorship.
Shift Timings: 2nd shift: 3:30 pm to midnight OR 3rd shift: 10:30 pm to 7:00 am
Responsibilities:
  • Take readings of coolant in all machines on a daily basis using refractometer and PH meter.
  • Record these readings. Asses condition of the coolant based on these checks and take appropriate action to remedy problems.
  • Maintain coolant coalescer, taking reading and monitoring concentration and condition.
  • Discuss problems with manufacturers' representatives regarding coolant.
  • Keep inventory of coolant concentrate and cleaning concentrate.
  • Check fire extinguishers on a monthly basis and record findings.
  • Check fire sprinkler test valves on a monthly basis and record findings.
  • Recommend improvements to the job where necessary.
  • Change coolant in approximately four machines per week, clean out coolant tanks and replace with new and recycled coolant.
  • Maintain the coolant mixing machine.
  • Change various filters on all machines as required.
  • Clean aisle way mirrors once per month; clean shop floor once per week.
  • Check emergency light fitting every three months and report any defective units.
  • Service the mechanical aspects of our machine coolant systems (e.g. changing coolant pumps)
  • Participate in Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) events as needed
  • Participate in major machine repair projects as needed
  • May be required to operate overhead crane, jib hoist, forklift, and other lifting devices safely and properly. Onsite training and certification required prior to operation.

Salary Range: The salary for this position is between $50,000 and $55,000 annually, depending on experience and qualifications. This range reflects our commitment to fair pay based on skills, experience, and market standards.
Knowledge/Education:
  • High school graduate or equivalent
  • Experience in a machine shop environment is preferred, not required.
  • Previous experience with cutting fluids and their make up is preferred, not required.

Skills and Abilities:
  • Must be able self motivated and work without supervision
  • Have an understanding of industrial instrumentation and control
  • A basic mechanical ability to dismantle and reassemble simple assemblies
  • A basic knowledge of chemistry, being able to understand concentrations, acidity and alkalinity meanings
  • Must be able to consistently lift 40 lbs, work on lift platforms up to 30 ft high and ladders up to 35 ft
