With some assistance, this position is responsible for duplicating and fabricating original parts from drawings, prints or models to meet the needs of Northern's field operations as well as contracted external customers.

Combined, BHE Pipeline Group operates approximately 21,200 miles of pipeline with a design capacity of approximately 21.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas per day, owns assets in 27 states and is an industry leader in natural gas transportation.   • Associate's degree in machining, mechanical or related technical field; or equivalent work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an Associate's degree).
  • One or more years of related machinist experience.
  • Must be able to operate or willing to learn to operate the following equipment: Computer Numerically Controlled lathes, vertical milling machines and power band saw; precision lapping machine; a horizontal spindle grinder; Blanchard grinder; manual milling machines; manual engine lathes; hydraulic press; radial arm drills and drill press; arbor press; precision measurement devices (Micrometer, gauge blocks); and specialized hand tools.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective computer skills, must be familiar with Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
  • Effectively perform high tolerance work in a hot, noisy environment within time expectations.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods of time.
  • Must be willing to work overtime when required to meet production deadlines.
  • Employees must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
  • Fully participate in the Northern Natural Gas Safety Program.
  • As directed, perform high precision tasks within time expectations while working with and around machinery with rotating and sliding mechanical components, sharp tools and heavy parts safely.
  • Assist in analyzing parts and drawings to determine the safest and most efficient process to produce work piece within required time and tolerance expectations.
  • Operate Computer Numerically Controlled lathes, mills, and five axis mill-turns to safely and efficiently produce parts within required time and tolerance expectations.
  • Setup and operate manually controlled machine tools to safely and efficiently produce parts within required time and tolerance expectations.
  • Measure parts and produce sketches or drawings in such detail as to allow the accurate duplication of the part.
  • Disassemble and inspect mechanical assemblies as directed to help determine the need for repair and method to use.
  • Assist in the recondition and assembly of mechanical components safely and efficiently to meet safety, tolerance, and mechanical performance within time expectations.
  • Assist in the development and creation of jigs and special tools as required to complete work safely and within time expectations.
  • Provide assistance in maintaining proper machine shop inventory level of materials and supplies to perform routine and emergency jobs as required.
  • Maintain machine shop equipment in proper operating condition as required.
  • Maintain accurate, detailed, historical records on all completed jobs using maintenance job tickets and logs of jobs completed.
  • Provide feedback as requested to assist in estimating the cost for performing machining shop work/projects.
  • Inspect all finished work to ensure such work meets or exceeds required specifications.
  • Perform any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
  • Contribute to a team-centric work environment based on mutual respect and integrity.
