SUMMARY
  • This job description outlines the duties and responsibilities for the Trades Helper I position at Vital Link Inc. The goal is to facilitate the employee's success within the chain of command by promoting transparent, effective, efficient, and quality corporate operations. Additional duties may be assigned as needed by the Director of Plant Operations, with this job description subject to revision for essential and recurring responsibilities.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION
  • Vital Link Inc. specializes in fabricating, maintaining, and installing jet engine test facilities and sound suppression systems. Our operations span both field and plant environments, servicing commercial and military sectors globally. The Trades Helper I role primarily ensures all assemblies and parts are correctly welded and prepared for processing in the painting/shipping department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform assigned duties under the direction of supervisors or assigned technicians, including material handling, abrasive metal cleaning, sweeping, washing, and providing general assistance to welders, fitters, machine operators, painters, sandblasters, and mechanics.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
  • Use and maintain safety equipment as required.
  • Clean welds and base metal as necessary.
  • Report equipment and machinery problems promptly to the Maintenance Department and stop operations if safety is compromised.
  • Ensure welding machines, supplies, equipment, and work areas are kept neat and orderly.
  • Perform other related duties, as assigned, for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment.
  • Ensure activities are conducted in accordance with Vital Link International Standards Organization (ISO9000) policies and correct and report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

ISO9000 SPECIFIC DUTIES
  • Be familiar with and understand Vital Link Quality Policy and company objectives.
  • Understand required ISO9000 specific Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Complete all records required by Procedures and Work Instructions.
  • Participate in Vital Link Continuous Improvement activities as appropriate.
  • Participate in ISO9000 training as required.
  • Cooperate with Auditors.
  • Report any deviations to appropriate area manager/supervisor.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
  • Preferred experience in metal fabrication shop operations.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Regularly standing, stooping, crouching, and bending.
  • Ability to use hands for handling objects, climbing, bending, reaching, and walking.
  • Must have good sight, hearing, and touch for effective communication.
  • Capable of lifting moderate to heavy steel parts, equipment, and supplies on a routine basis.

WORK ENVIRONMENT
  • Primarily outdoors and in an open shop, exposed to various weather conditions.
  • Hazards: Heavy dust and fumes; requires use of safety glasses and protective clothing.
  • Workdays typically 8-10 hours, 4-5 days per week, with occasional weekends and extended hours as business needs require.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually high.
