An LRT (Light Rail Transit) job typically involves operating, maintaining, or overseeing the light rail transit system in a city. Roles can include train operators, technicians, maintenance workers, or transit supervisors. Responsibilities vary but often involve ensuring passenger safety, following schedules, and maintaining rail infrastructure. These positions require training in safety procedures, mechanical knowledge, or customer service, depending on the role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Lrt position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Licensed Respiratory Therapist (LRT), you need a background in respiratory care, a state license, and often an associate’s or bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy. Familiarity with mechanical ventilators, pulmonary function testing equipment, and electronic health record systems is essential. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective communication skills help LRTs excel in patient care and interdisciplinary collaboration. These competencies are crucial for delivering safe, high-quality respiratory support in healthcare environments.

What are some common challenges faced by Licensed Respiratory Therapists (LRTs)?

Licensed Respiratory Therapists frequently encounter high-pressure situations, particularly in emergency or critical care settings, where patient conditions can change rapidly. They must be prepared to manage complex equipment, prioritize multiple tasks, and quickly respond to patient needs. Collaboration with doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals is integral, and effective communication ensures optimal patient outcomes. Adapting to new technologies and staying current with best practices are ongoing aspects of the role. These challenges make the job engaging and rewarding for professionals who thrive in fast-paced, patient-centered environments.

Job description

Job Description
Our mission is to improve the mobility, accessibility, and safety of people and goods through innovative transit-focused infrastructure solutions. Our team includes technical specialists with expertise in multimodal corridor design, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), Complete Streets, transit facilities, traffic engineering, intelligent transportation systems, and roadway design.
In this role, you will contribute to the planning and design of transit-supportive infrastructure, including transit corridors, dedicated bus lanes, guideways, station platforms, streetscape improvements, pedestrian and bicycle facilities, and complex urban roadway environments. Projects may range from concept development through final design for BRT, LRT, transit priority corridors, and multimodal Complete Streets improvements.
Key responsibilities include:
• Lead or support the design of transit corridor infrastructure, including roadway geometry, curb alignments, transit lanes, station areas, ADA-compliant pedestrian facilities, and multimodal improvements.
• Develop designs for BRT and LRT corridors, including integration of transit operations within constrained urban rights-of-way.
• Prepare and review engineering drawings, technical specifications, cost estimates, and design documentation for multimodal transportation projects.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including traffic engineering, rail, communications, traction power, utilities, drainage, architecture, and environmental specialists.
• Ensure designs comply with applicable FTA, AASHTO, MUTCD, ADA, state DOT, and local agency requirements.
• Perform corridor evaluations, site assessments, and design studies to support transit-focused project development.
• Review draft designs for technical accuracy, quality, and compliance with applicable standards and client requirements.
• Sign and seal engineering documents as required.
• Participate in project delivery across multiple design phases including concept design, 30%, 60%, 90%, and final design.
• Coordinate with transit agencies, municipalities, and stakeholders to support project development and implementation.
• Support preparation of technical proposals and scopes of work for transit and multimodal pursuits.
• Provide technical guidance, mentorship, and oversight to junior engineers and designers.
• Contribute to the advancement of Complete Streets and Safe System design principles that enhance safety, sustainability, and accessibility for all users.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil, Transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline. Certification as an Engineer in Training (EIT) or passing the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam in states where an EIT is not obtainable (within 18 months of hire or promotion or transfer). 5 years of related experience. Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands. Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience supporting the design of Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Light Rail Transit (LRT), streetcar, or transit priority corridor projects.
• Experience with Complete Streets and multimodal corridor design, including pedestrian and bicycle facilities.
• Demonstrated understanding of transit station design considerations, including platform interface, accessibility, and integration within urban streets.
• Familiarity with FTA guidelines, transit agency design criteria, and state DOT standards.
• Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams supporting transit infrastructure delivery.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway and corridor design.
• Experience working within urban or constrained rights-of-way.
• Experience supporting projects through multiple design phases.
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate with agencies and stakeholders.
