Job description

Company Description
Yellow Scene is the voice of Boulder County and the North Metro region, providing exhaustive coverage of local culture, arts, entertainment and compelling news stories for the active lifestyle of the area. Yellow Scene publishes and distributes 70,000 copies monthly and is the largest circulated publication serving the 14 communities of the Boulder County and North Metro region.
Whereas YS is for what to do around town, HOME & HOOD is an annual publication for what to do in the home and hood.
Colorado Brides to Colorado Babies is a twice annual Front Range Magazine for life's next great adventures.
Yellow House is our in-house design and marketing boutique specializing in small business and local municipalities.
We are an extremely creative group of people, housed under our one little roof in Erie Colorado. We are self-described as a bohemian, beatnik, scrappy rag-tag team of creatives and those most needed rocks that ground us.
Job Description
We don't reside in a pretty glass building in a hipster downtown. In fact we might be as far from that work atmosphere as you can find. We are a locally owned publication that started 14 years ago out of an apartment. Since 2000 we have grown to the most popular through the merits and talents of our illustrious editors, writers, salespeople and administrative associates.
We didn't get to the largest through big investors, everything we have done from the beginning is self-start. We are certain we got here (going up against much larger financed organizations and beating them) by sticking to a couple key principles: Hire great writers, great artists and great sales people (or great sales people in the making).
We have done well through the years with this philosophy and have launched not just one title successfully, but three. Of course, being an independently owned company this means we require exceptional sales people to get the word out. Sales takes drive and tenacity more than it takes education or experience and truly successful salesmanship does not come from a script. We provide extensive training and have taught many a person how to master the art of sales over the years. Those who understood that "no" is the start of the conversation have done very well representing the voice of Boulder County.
Most clients are, in fact, waiting for a talented, hungry sales person willing to do the work to earn their business to show up. It's just that they see so few of those. If you have that persistence, talent and willingness to work harder than your competitor, sales is one of the best positions to land. As the saying goes: Its either the highest paying, hardest working job you've ever had, or the easiest, lowest paying.
What we do takes work, hard work, but the rewards are great. Besides working with an eclectic group (honestly a bit of a rag-tag, motley crew) of passionate and creative people who love producing a local voice with integrity, besides helping small local businesses with our exceptional in-house design services, our reps can earn a fair and decent living for their hard work. On the high end, reps have made $65K their first year, on the low end $40K. And almost all are reaching to $65-$75K their second year. Our top rep earned $100K in their fourth year. Of course, they earned it through all that hard work and tenacity.
If you like the idea of working for a well-crafted, locally owned, community voice, and you have the drive to make your own success, we have the training ground to do it.
Send a resume of course, but we really like applicants who take the time to tell us why they think this job fits them, so please send a cover letter along with those credentials.
Qualifications
Drive, ambition, tenacious
