Job description

Position Summary

The National Account Manager is responsible for building and maintaining strong, long-term partnerships with assigned national retail customers. Acting as the primary liaison between UFP's manufacturing facilities and retail partners, this role drives sales growth, increases profitability, and expands market share for strategic product categories, with a primary focus on pressure-treated wood products and ProWood Distribution items. Success in this position requires exceptional communication skills, strategic business insight, retail market expertise, and a commitment to delivering value that strengthens both customer relationships and UFP's competitive position.

Location: Can be located in any state in the Southeast, including NC, TN, GA, FL, AL, SC, or also in Grand Rapids, MI.

Key Responsibilities

Account Management & Business Development

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for assigned national retail accounts, ensuring consistent communication, service, and execution.

  • Lead strategic growth initiatives for targeted product categories, with emphasis on pressure-treated wood and ProWood distribution items.

  • Develop and execute account-specific business plans to achieve revenue, profit, and volume targets.

  • Drive penetration of new products and services into existing retail accounts.

  • Participate in product line reviews, gathering competitive insights and market feedback to inform pricing, product development, and merchandising strategies.

Customer Engagement & Relationship Building

  • Attend and lead meetings with national retail accounts to present opportunities, review performance, and strengthen partnerships.

  • Collaborate with National Service Managers, Regional Sales Managers, and Customer Service Representatives to address field requests and implement action plans.

  • Resolve customer issues promptly, ensuring high levels of satisfaction.

  • Foster relationships with National, Regional and Local Pro Sales Team..

Program Implementation & Execution

  • Launch and manage new business programs, merchandising initiatives, and promotional campaigns with retail partners.

  • Ensure alignment between retail requirements and UFP operational capabilities.

  • Partner with marketing and product teams to design programs that enhance brand visibility and customer engagement.

Financial & Operational Accountability

  • Manage account assets, including inventory turnover, and aged inventory.

  • Prepare accurate and timely sales reports, forecasts, and account updates.

  • Monitor and analyze sales performance to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities.

Customer & Product Focus

Customer Types:

  • Assigned Big Box Retailer

Product Categories:

  • Primary - Pressure-treated wood products (ProWood).

  • Secondary - Additional ProWood and complementary categories to maximize account growth including Deckorators, and Edge.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, or related field (or equivalent experience).

  • Minimum 3 years of customer-facing sales or account management experience, preferably in retail, manufacturing, or building materials.

  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook).

  • Manufacturing and UFP product line experience preferred.

Skills & Competencies

  • Exceptional communication, negotiation, and presentation skills.

  • Strong business acumen and ability to develop strategic account plans.

  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
