As a Mechanical Technician Intern at Lowe’s, you’ll gain real-world experience supporting equipment maintenance and repair operations within a distribution or warehouse environment. Working side-by-side with experienced professionals to learn and assist with diagnostics, repairs, and preventative maintenance on a variety of systems—from rolling stock and conveyors to electrical components—helping ensure safe and efficient distribution center operations. This internship is ideal for students looking to build a career in skilled trades, mechanical repair, or supply chain support.

Summer Internship Program

Our 10-week summer internship program (May 26 – July 31, 2026) immerses you in real-world retail operations. You'll work directly with industry experts across our stores, distribution centers, and corporate offices, gaining practical experience through hands-on projects that make meaningful contributions to our business and communities.

This internship is based at our facility in Statesville, North Carolina. Our distribution centers are a space where safety meets efficiency, featuring state-of-the-art equipment, well-maintained work areas, and a culture that puts your wellbeing first. What You Will Learn

  • Work in a physical distribution/warehouse environment and handle equipment safely and effectively.
  • Utilize tools and techniques requiring fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.
  • Perform specialized repairs on conveyors, rolling stock, and building components within the Regional Distribution Center (RDC).
  • Demonstrate mechanical and electrical abilities for safe, independent equipment repairs in the Regional Distribution Center (RDC).
  • Apply classroom knowledge, technical skills, and systems experience to assist with diagnostics, basic repairs, and preventative maintenance, including troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
  • Order or obtain necessary parts for equipment repairs.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of all repairs, replacements, and maintenance activities.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment for oneself and others.
  • Shadow experienced leaders and participate in training programs.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Pursuing an ASS degree or certification from a community college, technical or trade school (Areas: HVAC, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Welding, Robotics or related fields).
  • Expected program completion date by April 2026, but no later than May 2027.
  • Possess a valid state driver’s license.
  • Effective verbal communication skills.
  • Physical stamina to alternated between sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods.
  • Ability to wear equipped PPE and work a full shift with meal break.

Preferred Skills/Experience

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA
  • Proficient in MS Office programs (specifically in Power Point, Excel and data analysis tools).
  • Strong interpersonal, collaborative, innovative problem solving, analytical thinking, organizational and communication skills.
  • Relevant experience in mechanical, electrical, robotics or warehouse operations.
  • Experience in a leadership position at work or within a campus organization.
  • Able to see objects and discriminate color.
  • Knowledge of the following areas: welding, fabrication, reading blueprints, schematics and other technical drawings.
  • Experience operating various maintenance and operations vehicle and equipment.
  • Knowledge and/or training in electrical/electronic theory ranging up to 600 volts systems.

Working Conditions

Environmental factors vary by location. You may be working in both inside and outside weather conditions. Exposure to varying climates, including extreme heat or cold, wet, damp, humid, windy, or drafty conditions, is possible. You may be exposed to constant or intermittent noises in addition to moving or shaking objects and equipment.

Lifting and moving merchandise methods will vary depending on role of associate, weight of merchandise, and/or volume of product; associates must follow lifting guidelines. A single lift by one associate should not exceed 75 pounds (for Store associates) or 70 pounds (for Distribution Center associates) with or without an accommodation. Team lifts should be utilized minimally starting at 75 pounds (for Store associates) or 70 pounds (for Distribution Center associates), or when an individual feels a lift is beyond their personal limitations. Powered equipment should be used when needed depending on load and volume. (Associate must have proper training to utilize powered equipment or ask a trained coworker for assistance).
