Job description

Job Title: Cable TechnicianJob Description

This role focuses on installing, terminating, and upgrading commercial low-voltage cabling, primarily CAT-5 and CAT-6, in a variety of customer facilities. You will work on data cabling projects that include pulling cable through rafters, terminating at wall plates, and installing cabinets for data centers. The position welcomes both experienced commercial cable installers and entry-level candidates who are dependable, eager to learn, and committed to working hard.

Responsibilities
  • Pull and install CAT-5 and CAT-6 cabling in commercial environments, including running cable through rafters and other building structures.
  • Perform punch-downs and terminate data cables at wall plates, patch panels, and other endpoints with precision and consistency.
  • Install cabinets, racks, and related infrastructure for data centers and network rooms.
  • Use J-hooks and other cable management hardware to route and secure cabling in a neat, organized manner.
  • Follow detailed installation instructions accurately the first time and maintain high attention to detail throughout each project.
  • Support security installation and access point cabling as needed, ensuring proper routing and terminations.
  • Work in a variety of facilities, from bare-bones pre-wire construction sites to fully built locations requiring upgrades.
  • Demonstrate reliability by consistently showing up on time, completing assigned tasks, and maintaining a strong work ethic.
  • Collaborate with project teams and foremen or leads to complete installations on schedule and in line with project specifications.
  • Adapt quickly to new tasks and environments, learning tools, techniques, and standards with minimal repeated guidance.
Essential Skills
  • Hands-on experience pulling and installing CAT-5 and CAT-6 cabling in commercial settings, or a strong desire and ability to learn these skills.
  • Proficiency or aptitude in punch-down and data cable termination at wall plates, patch panels, and other endpoints.
  • Familiarity with commercial cabling installation practices, including routing cable through rafters and structural components.
  • Ability to use J-hooks and standard cabling tools safely and effectively.
  • Demonstrated reliability, with consistent work history and no significant unexplained gaps in employment.
  • Fast learning ability, with the capacity to follow instructions once and apply them independently without repeated clarification.
  • Comfort working in construction and upgrade environments, including bare-bones facilities and occupied buildings.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to neat, organized cabling and installation work.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • BICSI certification is highly valued and places candidates in a strong position for consideration.
  • Foreman or lead-level experience in commercial cabling or low-voltage installation is a plus and may lead to future leadership opportunities.
  • Experience with security installation and access point cabling is beneficial.
  • Background in construction, wiring, or related trades is advantageous.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team of technicians on larger projects.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to take direction from project leads and foremen.
Why Work Here?

You will gain valuable, hands-on experience in commercial cabling and data infrastructure while working on a variety of projects and facility types. Competitive pay reflects the local market, and high-performing technicians on contract have a strong chance of being hired full-time. Full-time team members benefit from structured development plans designed to help them grow into roles that align with evolving business needs, as well as access to continued education to deepen their technical knowledge and expand their career opportunities.
