Part Time Accountant - Hybrid in Washington, DC Position Overview:

CFS is partnering with a well-established religious non profit organization in Washington, DC who is seeking a Part Time Accountant to provide ongoing accounting and bookkeeping support. We are looking for a dedicated professional interested in a long-term, part time opportunity. The ideal candidate will be a self-starter who can quickly learn processes, work independently, and take ownership of day-to-day accounting operations after an initial training period.

This Part Time Accountant role offers a highly flexible schedule and the opportunity to work primarily remotely while supporting a mission-driven organization where financial stewardship is highly valued. This position is ideal for an experienced bookkeeper or accountant who enjoys flexible work arrangements and wants to make a meaningful contribution to a faith-based organization.

Key Responsibilities of the Part Time Accountant:
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable functions
  • Process payroll accurately and timely
  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations
  • Complete month-end close activities
  • Prepare and generate financial statements from QuickBooks
  • Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts
  • Import and reconcile donation reporting from ParishSoft into the general ledger
  • Ensure donations and expenses are properly allocated to restricted and designated funds
  • Prepare fund reporting and other financial reports as needed
  • Assist with budgeting, budget reporting, and financial analysis
  • Support special projects and process improvement initiatives
  • Maintain accurate financial records in accordance with established policies and procedures
  • Assist with church events and administrative accounting-related tasks as needed
Qualifications of the Part Time Accountant:
  • Strong QuickBooks expertise required. Experience with ParishSoft is beneficial but not required
  • 2+ years' accounting experience, ideally within a non profit or faith based organization
    • Experience with accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and reconciliations
    • Ability to prepare financial statements and complete month-end close processes
    • Experience with budgeting and financial reporting preferred
  • Knowledge of fund accounting or nonprofit/church accounting is a plus
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities


Location: Washington, DC
Schedule: Part-Time, Approximately 15-20 hours per week (flexible schedule M-F during traditional business hours)
Work Arrangement: Candidates must be able to work on site in Washington, DC once per week (free parking provided)
Compensation: $27-29/hour
