Search & Comparison IntentLong Distance Delivery Driver vs Local Delivery Driver

Long Distance Delivery Drivers typically operate over highways and interstate routes, often requiring overnight stays and longer hours. They usually need a valid driver's license and may require a CDL for larger vehicles. Local Delivery Drivers focus on short-distance routes within cities or regions, with daily schedules. Both roles are essential in logistics and delivery industries, but they differ mainly in scope, environment, and travel requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Long Distance Delivery Driver, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Long Distance Delivery Driver, you need a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL), a clean driving record, and knowledge of road safety regulations. Familiarity with GPS navigation systems, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and freight handling equipment is typically required. Excellent time management, problem-solving skills, and the ability to stay focused and self-motivated over long hours set top drivers apart. These skills and qualities are crucial for ensuring timely, safe, and efficient delivery of goods across long distances.

What are long distance delivery drivers?

Long distance delivery drivers are professional drivers who transport goods over long distances, often between cities or states. They typically operate large vehicles such as trucks or tractor-trailers and are responsible for ensuring timely and safe delivery of products. Their job involves planning routes, adhering to safety regulations, and sometimes handling the loading and unloading of cargo. Long distance drivers usually spend many hours on the road and may be away from home for extended periods. This role is vital for keeping supply chains running efficiently.

What Does a Long Distance Delivery Driver Do?

As a long distance delivery driver, your job is to drive a long-haul truck or van along a specified route to deliver products. Most long distance delivery drivers drive several hundred miles per day, but this job does not always require overnight stays. In this role, you also service your vehicle to ensure its reliability for future operations, consult with warehouse teams on the products to be moved, inventory each shipment, wrap products with additional protection blankets as needed, and manage the distribution of weight within the vehicle. Many long distance delivery drivers also help unload cargo, collect signatures, and report any vehicle issues or incidents seen along the road.

Job description

JOB DESCRIPTION
Delivery Driver (In-House — No App Driving)Westbrook House of Pizza | Westbrook, Maine

Westbrook House of Pizza is looking for dependable, friendly, and motivated delivery drivers to join our team.

This is an in-house delivery position — you’ll be delivering directly for our restaurant, not through DoorDash, Uber Eats, or other third-party apps. Our drivers enjoy steady business, repeat local customers, consistent hours, and strong tip potential.

If you enjoy driving, working independently, and being part of a fast-paced team, this is a great opportunity to earn excellent hourly income in a supportive work environment.

What You’ll Do
  • Deliver customer orders safely and efficiently
  • Provide friendly, professional customer service
  • Handle payments and receipts accurately
  • Communicate with the store during deliveries
  • Assist in-store between deliveries:
  • Answering phones
  • Bagging orders
  • Light prep work
  • Stocking and cleaning

You’re an important part of the customer experience — often the last team member our customers interact with.

Schedule
  • Afternoon & evening shifts available
  • Weekend availability required
  • Full-time & part-time positions available
Pay & BenefitsAverage Earnings: $23–$30+ per hour
  • Base pay starting at $15.10/hour
  • Delivery tips (many drivers earn $70–$100+ in tips during a 4-hour shift)
  • Additional in-store tip share
  • Busy shifts can earn significantly more
We Also Offer:
  • Paid training
  • Flexible scheduling
  • Consistent weekly hours
  • Employee meals & discounts
  • Supportive family-run workplace
  • Steady delivery area (no long-distance routes)
  • Opportunities for additional in-store hours

Many of our long-term drivers stay because of the consistent earnings, flexible environment, and loyal repeat customers.

What We’re Looking For
  • Reliable and punctual
  • Friendly and professional with customers
  • Comfortable working independently
  • Organized and able to work efficiently during busy periods

No delivery experience required — we’re happy to train the right person.

Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Reliable personal vehicle
  • Active auto insurance
  • Smartphone for navigation and communication
Why This Job Is Different

Unlike app driving, you’re not competing with other drivers for orders.

Our deliveries are handled directly through the restaurant, giving our drivers:

  • Steady business
  • Familiar delivery areas
  • Repeat local customers
  • More consistent earnings

If you’re looking for a job where you can stay busy, work independently, and earn strong hourly income, we’d love to meet you.

Apply today and join the Westbrook House of Pizza team!
REQUIREMENTS
  • Valid State Driver's License
  • Acceptable motor vehicle record (specific requirements may vary — but your record does not have to be perfect)
  • Valid Insurance Verification
  • Reliable vehicle that you can use for deliveries
