Job description

Relocation will not be provided for this role. 

Purpose:

The Area Manager of Logistics will manage, plan, organize, and control the operating personnel, mobile equipment, and product flow throughout the operating assets and between the manufacturing plants in Canton, Ohio.  This includes the personnel for material movement, shipping, and the mobile equipment repair maintainers.  

They are responsible for the management and oversight of shipping operations and warehousing of products that are in process, in finished goods inventory, outsourced material, and returned goods.  In addition, they are responsible for maintaining a healthy fleet of semi tractors, trailers, and straddle carriers while adhering to capital and expense plans.

The Area Manager of Logistics will manage direct and indirect resources on safety, communications, training, development, and disciplinary action as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Management of material movement, shipping, and mobile repair shop associates
  • Leads department to ensure all levels are aligned with direction of Logistics
  • Develop and adheres to training plans for new associates
  • Maximizes utilization of people and vehicles to decrease costs and improve service
  • Launch safety and environmental improvement plans
  • Ensures a proactive response to safety concerns before incidents occur
  • Quick and effective corrective actions for safety and environmental issues
  • Incorporates new technology to improve safety throughout department
  • Adheres to quality internal standards for product movement and shipped materials
  • Follows ODOT, Commercial Driver's License regulations
  • Maintains certifications for hazardous material hauling
  • Works collaboratively to understand and align shipment goals
  • Continuously improves service metrics such as delivery times for WIP
  • Maintains, repairs, and improves health of vehicle fleet for product moves
  • Prioritizes orders to ensure on-time delivery of products to external customers
  • Assure compliance with scheduled shipments via truck and rail

Technical Skills:

  • L6, DMAIC, DMADV Process Methodologies.
  • Familiarity with multiple Customer Applications-practical problem solving experience working with front end sales, technical services, advanced engineering, Quality Assurance and other areas of manufacturing.
  • Deep technical knowledge of thermal treatment metallurgy, processing methods and material responsiveness through treatment processes.
  • Familiarity with upstream melt/refining processes and chemistry formulation for impact on material responsiveness through thermal treatment.
  • Familiarity with treatment and special finishing cost structure
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong coaching and mentoring skills
  • Excellent project management skills including budgeting, time management, collaboration and motivation.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED with a minimum of 12 years of in logistics or manufacturing.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in business or a related technical field with a minimum of 9 years of experience in logistics or manufacturing.  
  • Bachelor's degree in business or a related technical field with a minimum of 7 years of experience in logistics or manufacturing.
