POSITION SUMMARY

The Log Yard Operator is responsible for operating heavy equipment to load and unload logs on trucks, load and unload logs into decks, spread loads on the ground, sort logs by size and species and deliver logs to the mill.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Comprehend and perform all duties in accordance with rules, regulations and JSAs
  • Follow safety protocols and report hazards to ensure a safe work environment
  • Maintain a production level work pace without compromising safety or quality
  • Sort logs by criteria (length, diameter, species, etc.) while meeting company standards
  • Load and unload logs from trucks and mill
  • Working knowledge of log species for sorting, feeding and storage of logs
  • Operate Log Yard rolling stock.
  • Other duties as needed.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Working knowledge of wood species and ability to identify in log form
  • Ability to pass a drug and alcohol test, post-offer pre-employment physical, and background check
  • Valid Driver's License with acceptable motor vehicle history for business travel in company vehicle

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 2+ years heavy equipment operator experience

PHYSICAL DEMANDS- Production

Ability to sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distance, and climb stairs.

  • Lift above waist height – frequent depending on machine center
