Our more than 6,000 employees are proud to work at our state-of-the-art sawmills and other facilities, including: manufacturing, custom wood-framed windows, fabrication, millwork, veneer, cogeneration, trucking, forestry, and other operations.
Currently, we are seeking a qualified Certified Log Scaler to work collaboratively with our sawmill in Quincy, California .
About the Position
  • Measure logs to determine scale (volume) and quality (grade)
  • Pass scale checks conducted by Sierra Pacific and outside inspection agencies
  • Be proficient in scaling rules and procedures
  • Safely and efficiently operate log yard equipment, including front-end loader and water truck
  • Work to support continuous improvement and overall quality efforts
  • Recognize problems and take initiative to promptly correct them
  • Communicate effectively with coworkers and other departments
  • Adhere to all safety policies and perform tasks in a safe and responsible manner
  • Operate hand-held computer

Qualifications
  • Currently a Certified Log Scaler
  • One year of recent experience as a Certified Log Scaler
  • Proven knowledge of log grades and species identification
  • Proficient in Microsoft Work and Excel
  • Ability to solve simple and moderate math problems
  • Demonstrated commitment to safe work practices
