Job description

At Locus Robotics, we build AI-powered systems and intelligent robots that keep global supply chains running. Our platform combines advanced AI, real-time decision-making, and autonomous robotics to help leading companies improve efficiency, scale operations, and adapt to constant change.
Locus Robotics is a place to do meaningful work with real-world impact, where your ideas move quickly from concept to deployment. We invest in our people, encourage continuous learning, and give you the opportunity to grow your career while building technology that is used every day at global scale.
As a Manufacturing Engineer at Locus Robotics, you will be a key driver in advancement of manufacturing excellence across the company's growing robotic product lines. This onsite role supports the full manufacturing lifecycle, from new product introduction (NPI) to ongoing production sustainment-while ensuring that manufacturing processes embody Locus's principles of continuously improving safety, quality, and productivity. This position is based at the Locus Robotics headquarters in Wilmington, MA.
Onsite position located at our Wilmington, MA headquarters, requiring five (5) days per week onsite.
Responsibilities
  • Support full product lifecycle manufacturing, including concept development, prototyping, pilot builds, production, sustainment, and end-of-life phases.
  • Develop and refine manufacturing processes, tooling, equipment, and process documentation to support efficient and repeatable production.
  • Lead the deployment and continuous refinement of lean principles, including standardized work, takt time analysis, flow optimization, pull systems, visual management, and waste elimination.
  • Champion a culture of continuous improvement through kaizen events, Gemba walks, and operator-driven feedback loops.
  • Partner closely with R&D, Product Management, Supply Chain, and Quality to ensure robust, well-structured manufacturing solutions.
  • Apply Design for Excellence (DfX) to ensure manufacturability, scalability, reliability, and cost efficiency for new and existing robotic platforms.
  • Support ECO change management through assessment of design revisions, updating work instructions, and leading manufacturing implementation.
  • Collaborate with contract manufacturers to enhance build quality, establish standard work, stabilize throughput, and ensure process capability.
  • Use data to identify bottlenecks, assess productivity, and prioritize improvements.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and drive actions that enhance production speed, quality, and stability.
  • Establish visual performance boards, metrics, and layered process audits to strengthen daily management systems.
  • Drive process improvements that support the growth and efficiency of Locus's manufacturing operations.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 5-8 years of hands-on experience implementing lean manufacturing, Toyota Production Systems (or Six Sigma), or other world-class operations systems.
  • Strong familiarity with standardized work, takt time, line balancing, root cause analysis, and waste elimination.
  • Experience in manufacturing electromechanical or robotic systems preferred.
  • Proficiency in creating process documentation, work instructions, PFMEAs, and control plans.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and collaboration skills.
  • Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, AutoCAD), as well as PLM and ERP systems (Arena, NetSuite, Oracle, Windchill, or SAP).
  • Experience supporting or interfacing with contract manufacturers.
  • High Volume Manufacturing experience

The expected base salary range for this role is $110,000 - $160,000 annually, informed by external market data. Actual offers will depend on factors such as the candidate's experience, education, training, key or critical skills, geographic location, and current market and business conditions.
