What is a locum tenens sales?

A Locum Tenens Sales job involves selling staffing services to healthcare facilities that need temporary physicians and advanced practitioners. Sales professionals in this role build relationships with hospitals, clinics, and private practices to match them with qualified providers. The job requires strong communication, negotiation, and customer service skills to ensure both the facility and provider have a smooth experience. It is a fast-paced, commission-driven role that plays a crucial part in ensuring patients receive uninterrupted care.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in locum tenens sales?

Succeeding in Locum Tenens Sales requires a background in healthcare staffing or medical sales, strong sales acumen, and preferably a bachelor’s degree related to business or healthcare. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), CRM platforms like Salesforce, and knowledge of compliance standards such as those set by The Joint Commission are important technical assets. Outstanding interpersonal skills, resilience, and the ability to build rapport with healthcare professionals set top performers apart. These skills enable effective identification of client needs, successful placement of healthcare providers, and sustained growth in a competitive market.

What are the typical day-to-day responsibilities of someone working in locum tenens sales?

In a Locum Tenens Sales role, your typical day involves sourcing and qualifying healthcare professionals, matching them with temporary staffing opportunities, and working closely with both providers and healthcare facilities to ensure a good fit. Collaboration with credentialing teams, recruiters, and compliance staff is common to ensure rapid and accurate placements. The role is fast-paced and requires adaptability, as you’ll often juggle multiple assignments and respond quickly to last-minute staffing needs.

Are locum tenens sales jobs hard to find?

Locum tenens sales jobs can be competitive but are generally available through specialized staffing agencies and online job boards. Success often depends on industry experience, networking, and understanding healthcare staffing needs, with some roles requiring certifications or sales skills. Availability varies by region and demand for temporary healthcare staffing solutions.

Do locum tenens get paid more?

Locum tenens physicians and healthcare professionals often earn higher hourly rates compared to permanent staff due to the temporary nature of their assignments, flexibility, and the need for specialized skills. However, total compensation can vary based on location, specialty, and demand, and may include additional benefits such as housing stipends or travel allowances.
