Library Media Specialist 


GENERAL STATEMENT
OF JOB:
This is an instructional and technical position wherein the Library Media Specialist will provide library instruction to the Salt Point Center and Resilience Academy as well as provide technical support for the School Library System as an automation specialist. As a library media specialist, s/he will function as a consultant library teacher, collaborating with teachers and principals within the Agency to conduct library studies lessons, activities, and projects for students at Salt Point Center and Resilience Academy.  Additionally, an employee in this position will provide a variety of supports for the Educational Resources department, primarily within the School Library System network providing technical expertise for library automation software and hardware.

    Full-time, 10-month, tenure track assignment.

    NY State Certification as a Librarian or Library/Media Specialist or as required for positions                      


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS
AND ABILITIES
DUTIES AND 
RESPONSIBILITIES:


    Curate diverse collections across grades, content area, schools, and abilities;
    Design and teach or co-teach engaging inquiry and learning experiences (including instruction in the location, extraction, organization, and synthesis of information, research strategies, use of resources and equipment) and assessment that incorporate multiple literacies and foster critical thinking;
    Perform user support and help desk duties, such as: answering questions within 24 hours, logging problems, diagnosing/troubleshooting of computer problems related to the library automation systems, OPALS and SORA, uploading MARC records, general software installation, library automation, data input, enabling Z39.50 protocols, cataloging and classification of new materials, assigning barcodes to books and linking them to digital records in OPALS, and peripheral hardware installation;
    Provide user training on library-specific platforms as needed or requested as part of SLS;
    Facilitate interlibrary loan among member school libraries using local, regional, and worldwide databases;
    Receive and log problems related to the library automation service and online database service;
    Provide front-line diagnosing/troubleshooting of computer hardware and software;
    Assist in the maintenance of a regional periodicals database;
    Provide library and/or technology staff assistance with access and password problems related to online resources;
    Assist the Coordinator of School Library System with other tasks when asked;
    Work up to 20 days during the summer months; and
    Perform other related tasks as assigned










EVALUATION:   Principal/ER Director

SALARY: $67,035 - $77,322 in accordance with the BOCES Faculty Agreement Contract, experience, and education.
