What do local drywall contractors do?

Local drywall contractors are professionals who install, repair, and finish drywall, which is the material used to create walls and ceilings in homes and commercial buildings. Their work involves measuring, cutting, and securing drywall panels, as well as taping, mudding, and sanding to create a smooth surface ready for painting or wallpapering. They may also handle patching holes, fixing water damage, and adding texture to walls. Hiring a local contractor ensures faster response times and familiarity with local building codes and materials.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Local Drywall Installer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Local Drywall Installer, you need strong skills in measuring, cutting, and installing drywall panels, often backed by a high school diploma and on-the-job training. Familiarity with hand and power tools, drywall finishing techniques, and safety certifications like OSHA are commonly required. Attention to detail, physical stamina, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills in this trade. These competencies ensure precise work, on-time project completion, and a safe, efficient job site.

What are some common challenges faced by local drywall installers and how can they be managed?

Local drywall installers often encounter challenges such as tight project deadlines, working in confined or awkward spaces, and coordinating with other trades on-site. Managing these issues typically involves effective time management, clear communication with team members and contractors, and being adaptable to changing project requirements. Staying updated on best practices and safety standards also helps ensure quality work and minimizes delays.

About Halyard

CBG has been in the business of exceptional interior finishes since 2004, growing from a local drywall shop into a trusted commercial construction company across Michigan. We self-perform cold-formed metal framing, drywall, and interior finishes on commercial projects — and we’ve built our reputation on doing it right.

Headquartered in Rockford, MI, we work primarily throughout West Michigan. We operate on the EOS® framework: clear goals, real accountability, and a team that actually communicates. We’re not just hiring bodies — we’re building a crew.

Why We’re Posting This

We don’t wait until we have an urgent need to find good people — because that’s not how you build a great team. Whether you’re brand new to the trades or you’ve been swinging tools for 20 years, if you’ve got a strong work ethic and want steady, quality work in West Michigan, we want to hear from you.

Who We’re Looking For

We welcome applicants at all experience levels, including:

•        Entry-Level Field Laborers — no experience required, just a willingness to work and learn

•        Drywall Hangers & Finishers — apprentice to journeyman, hanging, taping, mudding, finishing

•        Carpenters & Framers — metal or wood framing, door and hardware installation, trim work, rough carpentry

What You’ll Do

•        Work on commercial interior construction sites across West Michigan

•        Install metal stud framing, drywall systems, and interior finishes

•        Follow project plans, maintain a safe and organized jobsite, and take direction from your foreman

•        Grow your skills alongside experienced tradespeople — we promote from within

What You Bring

•        Reliability — you show up on time and ready to work

•        A team-first attitude — construction is a team sport

•        Willingness to learn — we’ll teach you what you don’t know

•        Ability to pass a background check and drug screen

•        A valid driver’s license (preferred)

•        Prior construction experience is a plus, but not required for entry-level candidates

The Details

•        Location: Field-based across West Michigan; home base in Rockford, MI

•        Travel: Local travel to jobsites required; personal vehicle preferred

•        Hours: Full-time; occasional extended hours based on project needs

•        Physical: Active jobsite environment; frequent walking, standing, and lifting; PPE required

Why Halyard?

We offer competitive pay based on experience, health/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, 401(k) with company match, and year-round steady work. More importantly, we’re a company that invests in its people. We promote from within, we train, and we build careers — not just jobsite rosters.

If that sounds like a place you want to grow, we’d love to hear from you.
