Job description

Job Description: HRIS Specialist (Workday – LMS)

Company: Client

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL

Our client is a national, privately held construction firm delivering award-winning projects across construction management, solar EPC, and design-build. This role is a hands-on Workday specialist focused on Workday Learning (LMS)—owning configuration, reporting, data integrity, and release support to improve the employee learning experience and enable scalable workforce development in a project-driven environment.

About Us (Octagon Talent Solutions):

Octagon Talent Solutions is a full-service technology recruitment and staffing company based in South Florida. We humanize technical recruitment by identifying candidates' long-term career goals and assessing cultural fit when presenting opportunities. Our focus on long-term relationships helps ensure placements that last.

Job Overview:

The HRIS Specialist (Workday – LMS) is a Workday subject matter expert responsible for supporting, optimizing, and enhancing Workday HCM with a primary focus on Workday Learning. Partnering closely with HR, Talent & Development, and Technology stakeholders, this role drives system configuration, testing, reporting, governance, and continuous improvement—ensuring accurate HR data, strong compliance, and a scalable learning ecosystem that supports field and corporate teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the Workday Learning (LMS) SME within the Energy division, advising on current capabilities and upcoming Workday features.
  • Partner with leaders and stakeholders to develop and execute the Workday Learning roadmap and backlog.
  • Design, configure, maintain, and optimize Workday Learning, including:
  • Learning hubs
  • Course/learning assignments and enrollment rules
  • Condition rules and notifications
  • Security roles
  • Calculated fields and reporting
  • Gather requirements across HR, Training Content, Talent & Development, and IT; translate business needs into scalable Workday solutions that improve process quality and employee experience.
  • Build and maintain advanced, matrix, and composite reports; dashboards; discovery boards; and analytics to support workforce and learning decisions.
  • Maintain data integrity through audits, troubleshooting, exception reporting, and proactive cleanup.
  • Support semiannual Workday release cycles: impact assessment, configuration updates, regression testing, documentation updates, and stakeholder communication.
  • Create and maintain functional documentation including process flows, configuration decisions, data mapping, test scripts, business process guides, and job aids.
  • Provide Tier 2–3 configuration-based troubleshooting and support for escalated HRIS tickets.
  • Ensure HRIS practices align with governance, privacy standards, and internal compliance frameworks.
  • Follow established change control/change management and testing/release protocols to ensure stable deployments.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Information Systems, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 3–5 years of hands-on Workday HCM configuration experience with primary responsibility for Workday Learning (LMS).
  • Strong understanding of core HR business processes, organizational structures, Workday data model, and employee lifecycle transactions.
  • Strong Workday reporting skills (advanced report writer, calculated fields, dashboards).
  • Proven troubleshooting and root-cause analysis skills with the ability to deliver scalable, repeatable solutions.
  • Ability to translate business needs into functional/technical requirements and communicate effectively with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Strong documentation and organizational skills; able to manage multiple priorities and deliver high-quality work independently.

Preferred qualifications

  • Workday certifications (HCM, Learning, Reporting).
  • HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR).
  • Experience using Agile practices and tools such as Jira (or similar backlog management tools).
  • Experience supporting HR systems in a large, project-driven workforce environment (construction/EPC preferred).
