What is live sound engineering?

Live sound engineering is the process of managing and operating audio equipment during live events such as concerts, theater productions, and conferences. Live sound engineers are responsible for setting up microphones, speakers, and mixing consoles to ensure high-quality sound for the audience and performers. Their duties also include balancing audio levels, controlling feedback, and troubleshooting technical issues in real-time. This role requires both technical skills and a keen ear for sound to adapt to varying venues and performance styles.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a live sound engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Live Sound Engineer, you need a solid understanding of audio principles, acoustics, and signal flow, often supported by formal training or a degree in audio engineering. Proficiency with mixing consoles, digital audio workstations (DAWs), microphones, and PA systems is essential, and certifications from organizations like AVIXA or Dante can be advantageous. Strong problem-solving, communication, and teamwork skills help you adapt quickly to on-site challenges and collaborate with performers and crew. These competencies ensure high-quality sound experiences and smooth event operations in dynamic live environments.

What are some common challenges faced by live sound engineers during events, and how can they be addressed?

Live sound engineers often encounter challenges such as unexpected technical issues, acoustical problems in various venues, and managing last-minute changes from performers or organizers. To address these, it's important to arrive early for thorough sound checks, maintain clear communication with performers and event staff, and stay adaptable under pressure. Being proactive with equipment maintenance and having backup solutions ready can also help ensure the show runs smoothly and professionally.

Understanding these differences helps clarify career paths and job expectations in the audio industry.

Are live sound engineers in demand?

Live sound engineers are in demand due to the ongoing need for audio support at concerts, events, and productions. Employment opportunities often depend on experience, technical skills, and familiarity with sound equipment and mixing consoles. The industry can be competitive, but skilled engineers with certifications and adaptability are sought after.

Job description

We're Hiring: Senior Full Stack Developer

Location: Columbus, OH (onsite)

Work Model: Hybrid — 4 days onsite, 1 day remote

Type: Full-time

Relocation notice — please read before applying. This is an onsite, Columbus-based role. Candidates who are not already local must be able to relocate to the Columbus, OH area immediately upon offer. We cannot accommodate a relocation timeline or a delayed start once the interview process is complete. Please apply only if you are local or fully certain you can relocate right away.

About iVueit

iVueit is a technology platform that gives enterprises on-demand, verified eyes on their physical locations. Through our network and mobile capture tools, customers request "Vues" — structured photo and video verifications of real-world sites — and get back reliable, actionable visual data at scale. We're a growing Engineering team building the backend services, web applications, and integrations that power this at production scale.

About the Role

We're looking for a Senior Full Stack Developer to join our Engineering team as a hands-on technical leader. This person will own significant backend and frontend work, lead the system design of new projects, and help guide the team in delivering them.

The core of this role is Go on the backend and React on the frontend, paired with strong system design and architecture leadership. You'll design how projects are built, make the key architectural calls, and bring the team along with you — not just write features. We're also a modern engineering shop that expects responsible, effective use of AI development tools to raise both speed and quality.

What You'll Do
  • Lead the system design and architecture of new projects — define the approach, make the trade-offs, and guide the team through delivery
  • Design, build, deploy, and maintain scalable backend services in GoLang, including gRPC service design and RESTful APIs
  • Build modern frontend experiences in React.js and TypeScript
  • Design and evolve relational database schemas and data models (MySQL / PostgreSQL)
  • Own production reliability: support and maintain live applications, participate in the on-call rotation, and monitor system health using Datadog and Sentry
  • Contribute to reporting and analytics workflows, including AWS QuickSight
  • Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and deployment workflows
  • Deploy and operate applications on AWS
  • Use AI development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude) responsibly to build and test software faster and better — with sound engineering judgment, not unchecked "vibe coding"
  • Work in an Agile environment with cross-functional teams
What We're Looking For
  • 5+ years of full stack development experience
  • Strong, primary proficiency in GoLang (backend services, APIs, gRPC)
  • Strong experience with React.js and TypeScript
  • Proven ability to lead system design, architecture, and design-pattern decisions, and to guide a team through project delivery
  • Strong experience with MySQL or PostgreSQL and relational database design
  • Experience designing and shipping RESTful and/or gRPC APIs in production
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and production support
  • Hands-on experience operating on AWS
  • Experience with observability/monitoring tooling (Datadog, Sentry, or similar) and participating in on-call
  • Demonstrated, responsible use of AI-assisted development tools to build and test software — with the judgment to know when to trust, verify, or override the output
  • Proficiency with Git and Agile development practices
Bonus Points For
  • Mobile development experience with Flutter and Dart
  • Experience with AWS QuickSight or similar BI/analytics tooling
  • A strong ownership mindset and a practical, problem-solving approach
  • The ability to move quickly while maintaining quality and scalability
Work Authorization
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship, now or in the future.
  • No visa sponsorship is available for this position.
How to Apply

If you're passionate about building modern software, leading across the stack, and using the latest tools responsibly to improve engineering outcomes, we'd love to hear from you.
