Job Brief:
Analytical Mechanics Associates, Inc. (AMA) is seeking a mechanical engineer for our Denver, CO location with 3-10 years of experience. The compensation for this position is expected to be between $80k - 160k. The applicant must be a U.S. citizen and local or willing to relocate to Denver, CO.
Job Description:
AMA is accepting applications for a motivated Mechanical engineer to perform cutting edge analyses within AMA's Advanced Capabilities & Programs group at the Denver, CO locations.
The desired candidate will possess a graduate degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and will have professional experience related to mechanical design including structural/mechanical design and analysis and / or thermal design and analysis. Primary work responsibilities will be supporting mechanical design and engineering analysis of space components and systems in addition to supporting multidisciplinary engineering analyses in support of NASA's Space Nuclear Propulsion (SNP) project. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in structural finite element analysis (FEA) and a demonstrated track record of advancing hardware or system designs from Preliminary Design Review (PDR) through Critical Design Review (CDR).
This position may be split into two roles depending on candidate qualifications, with one focused on mechanical design and the other focused on thermal analysis.

Responsibilities:
  • The successful applicant will assist AMA's Advanced Capabilities & Programs team with performing analyses on a range of potential missions and tasks:
    • Creating mechanical designs in Computer Aided Design (CAD) environments such as SolidWorks for spacecraft conceptual layouts through detailed component designs.
    • Developing FEA models in FEMAP/NASTRAN and / or ANSYS of space components and systems.
    • Performing thermal design and analysis in ANSYS and / or Thermal Desktop of space components and systems.
    • Creating relevant heat transfer, structural analysis, and other models in python/MATLAB.
    • Processing results and developing reports/slide decks to present findings to customers and related stakeholders.
  • Technical writing and documentation of projects and engineering processes.
  • Publish reports, papers, and articles on findings.

Requirements:
  • A bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering or another related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of related work experience in Mechanical design including structural/mechanical analysis and / or Thermal design and analysis.
  • Experience performing structural finite element analysis (FEA).
  • Experience developing mechanical designs in Computer Aided Design (CAD) environments such as SolidWorks.
  • Technical writing experience and the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to a diverse multi-disciplinary team / audience.
  • Ability to independently communicate with and interface with customers or stakeholders.
  • U.S. Citizenship.

Desired Qualifications:
  • A graduate-level degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering and/or 7-10 years of relevant professional work experience.
  • Experience taking projects/products/designs from Preliminary Design Review (PDR) to Critical Design Review (CDR).
  • Mechanical design including structural/mechanical analysis and / or Thermal design and analysis specifically for space systems.
  • Experience creating finite element models in FEMAP/NASTRAN, or equivalent software.
  • Experience with using MATLAB, Simulink, and Python for performing engineering analyses.
  • Experience working with NASA, DOE, DOD, or other related government agencies.
  • Self-motivated with good communication skills and desire to work in a highly motivated team environment.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to set up processes and organize project tasks.
