WCS Healthcare is partnering with a Correctional Facility in Bridgeport, CT to hire an experienced Detox Registered Nurse (RN). This role is critical in supporting inmate patients during intake and withdrawal, ensuring safe and effective clinical management in a fast-paced correctional healthcare environment.

The Detox RN will play a key role in identifying and managing patients experiencing substance withdrawal upon intake. This position requires strong assessment skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize patient care in a structured, security-based setting.
Job Function:

  • Review daily admissions/intake reports to identify patients with reported substance use
  • Evaluate patient records in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and prioritize individuals for detox assessment
  • Conduct face-to-face assessments with inmate patients upon intake
  • Perform and document comprehensive detox evaluations, including:
    • Vital signs
    • COWS (Clinical Opiate Withdrawal Scale)
    • CIWA-Ar (Alcohol Withdrawal)
    • CIWA-B (Benzodiazepine Withdrawal)
  • Monitor withdrawal symptoms and escalate care as needed
  • Verify reported medications and active prescriptions with pharmacies and clinics
  • Accurately document all findings, interventions, and verifications in the EHR
  • Collaborate with medical providers and correctional staff to ensure continuity and safety of care
  • Maintain compliance with all facility, state, and regulatory guidelines
Location: Bridgeport, CT
Schedule: Full-Time | Evening 12pm-8pm (5 Shifts a Week)

  • Active Connecticut RN license
  • Previous experience in detox, behavioral health, corrections, ER, or ICU strongly preferred
  • Experience with substance use withdrawal protocols and scoring tools (COWS, CIWA) required
  • Strong clinical assessment, documentation, and prioritization skills
  • Ability to work in a correctional environment with professionalism and adaptability
  • Experience with EHR systems required
