Job description

Description

A 75 year old gentleman in Marin County is looking for a warm, reliable live-in companion caregiver to share his home and help him live well and safely. He is well read, good company, and living with diabetes and a healing foot wound, which means he needs someone attentive and steady beside him through the day and overnight. This is a private family hire, coordinated by his care manager, and the family is looking for someone who can start right away.

What you will do

You will be his companion first. That means conversation, meals together, and a calm, orderly home. Day to day you will prepare meals consistent with a diabetic diet, keep the kitchen and living areas clean and safe, do laundry and light housekeeping, and manage errands and grocery shopping. You will give medication reminders on schedule and keep a simple daily log. You will be nearby when he moves around the house, provide standby support with mobility and transfers, and make sure he keeps weight off his foot when his doctors require it. You will drive him to and from medical appointments and sit with him when needed. Most importantly, you will notice changes, in his foot, his skin, his eating, his mood, or his energy, and report them to the care manager the same day. Overnight you will be in the home and available if he needs you.

Schedule and pay

Live-in, 24 hours a day, five days on and two days off, with relief coverage arranged for your days off. A private, furnished bedroom and all meals are provided. Compensation is [PAY], paid [weekly/biweekly]. Start date is immediate.

What we are looking for

We are looking for someone with real experience caring for or keeping company with an older adult, whether professionally or in your own family, who can give at least two references we can call. You must be comfortable living in, non-smoking, fluent in English, legally able to work in the United States, and willing to complete a background check. A valid California driver's license, a clean driving record, and your own car or comfort driving his are needed for appointments and errands. Experience with diabetes, a diabetic diet, or foot and skin care is a strong plus but not required, and we will provide clear instructions and support from his care team. Above all we need patience, good humor, honesty, and the kind of attentiveness that notices small changes before they become big ones. The household is gay-affirming, and the right person will be at ease and welcoming in that home.

How to apply

To apply, please send a short note about yourself and your experience, your availability, and two references to Marlon McWilliams, PsyD. We are moving quickly and will respond to every serious applicant within one business day.
