Job description

Company Description Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center (PVHMC) is a nationally recognized, not-for-profit, 427-bed community hospital and trauma center serving eastern Los Angeles and western San Bernardino counties. The medical center holds multiple advanced certifications from The Joint Commission, including inpatient diabetes care, palliative care, sepsis, pulmonary care, perinatal care, and total joint replacement. PVHMC is the largest birthing hospital in Los Angeles and San Bernardino Counties and is proud to have earned the Baby-Friendly designation. PVHMC offers a collaborative environment focused on providing high-quality, patient-centered care.

Role Description This full-time Clinical Coder role is a fully remote position. The Clinical Coder is responsible for reviewing medical records, applying appropriate diagnostic and procedural codes, and ensuring accurate and compliant documentation to support billing, reimbursement, and quality reporting. Daily tasks include analyzing clinical documentation, verifying medical terminology and coding accuracy, and using hospital-approved coding systems and software. The role also involves collaborating with clinicians and Health Information Management staff to clarify documentation, resolve coding discrepancies, and maintain adherence to regulatory and payer guidelines. The Clinical Coder contributes to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying trends, supporting audits, and helping optimize coding processes.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess strong medical coding and coding experience skills, with proven ability to apply ICD-10, CPT, and related coding standards accurately.
  • Candidates should possess Medical Terminology knowledge to interpret clinical documentation and assign appropriate codes.
  • Candidates should possess Health Information Management knowledge, including familiarity with documentation requirements, privacy regulations, and record-keeping practices.
  • Candidates should possess RHIA, RHIT, or CCS certification.
  • Additional beneficial qualifications include experience in an acute care hospital setting, knowledge of payer rules and compliance guidelines, strong attention to detail, and proficiency with electronic health record and coding software.
  • Effective communication skills, ability to work collaboratively with clinical and administrative teams, and commitment to accuracy and integrity in coding practices are highly valued.
