They often perform similar duties, including representing clients in court and managing civil disputes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a litigation lawyer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Litigation Lawyer, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, bar admission, and comprehensive knowledge of civil and criminal procedure, legal research, and case strategy. These skills and qualities are crucial for effectively representing clients, building persuasive arguments, and managing complex litigation processes.

What are some common challenges faced by litigation lawyers during the discovery phase of a case?

Litigation lawyers often encounter challenges during the discovery phase, such as managing large volumes of documents, handling tight deadlines, and ensuring compliance with complex procedural rules. They must be thorough in identifying relevant evidence while safeguarding privileged information. Collaboration with clients, opposing counsel, and support staff is crucial to organize data efficiently and respond effectively to discovery requests, which requires strong organizational and communication skills.

What does a litigation lawyer do?

A litigation lawyer, also known as a litigator, specializes in representing clients in civil lawsuits and legal disputes. Their responsibilities include investigating cases, drafting legal documents, negotiating settlements, and representing clients in court hearings or trials. Litigation lawyers handle all phases of the litigation process, from pre-trial work to appeals. They work closely with clients to build strong cases, gather evidence, and advocate for their clients' best interests. Their work can involve both defending against lawsuits and initiating legal action on behalf of their clients.

Description

Hinshaw & Culbertson LLP, a national law firm with a strong reputation in litigation and insurance-related matters, seeks a senior associate, senior counsel, or service partner-track attorney to join its growing Defense Litigation practice in Phoenix.

This opportunity is particularly well-suited for an accomplished litigation attorney who has developed strong legal, case management, and client service skills and is seeking a platform for long-term professional growth. • Experience drafting and arguing substantive motions, managing discovery, taking depositions, and preparing cases for trial.
  • Strong legal writing, analytical, and advocacy skills.
  • Interest in business development and building long-term client relationships.
  • Experience supervising or mentoring junior attorneys is a plus.
  • Admission in other jurisdictions where Hinshaw maintains offices, is a plus.

What We Offer

  • Competitive compensation and bonus opportunities.
  • A collegial culture that values high-quality legal work, collaboration, and long-term career development.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an experienced litigator seeking greater responsibility, expanded client exposure, and a long-term career path with a growing national practice.
