Job description

The Manager, Paralegal Services, is responsible for providing legal support to the lawyers of the Legal Services Department and managing operations and software of the Legal Services Department.  This position must demonstrate leadership behaviors including high levels of organization and prioritization, attention to detail, and a strong focus on quality of work.

Experience: 10 years experience as a Paralegal

Education: High School Diploma 

License and Certification: Paralegal Certification

1. Provides Legal Support:

    Drafts legal documents with attorney oversight.
    Understands statutory, regulatory and case law on a range of issues including, but not limited to, contractual agreements, employment issues, regulatory issues, corporate matters, medical staff issues, policies and procedures, reimbursement issues and other issues as needed.
    Reviews and drafts contracts including, but not limited to, physician contracts. contracts for sale and lease of property, consultant contracts. Service contracts, confidentiality agreements, severance agreements and other contracts as needed.
    Develops process improvement opportunities for the Legal Services Department as well as other FMOLHS and subsidiary departments with legal needs and implements those opportunities.
    Builds and administers Severance Agreements for Team Members.
    Builds and administers Bonus Agreements for retention or sign-on incentives for Team Members.
    Provides individualized training to all VP, General Counsels, Sr Director, Divisional General Counsel, and Associate General Counsel within the Health System on updates to legal processes and procedures.

2. Manages Corporate Filings and Warrants:

    Ensures integrity to corporate structure and complies with all filing requirements.
    Responsible for all corporate filings in Louisiana and Mississippi.
    Manages criminal warrants and civil subpoenas including coordination of responses with various interested departments.
    Responsible for all Official Catholic Directory filings and revisions as required to maintain tax-exempt status for FMOLHS and its subsidiaries.
    Partners with FMOLHS Finance and Risk Departments as well as outside tax auditors regarding ownership aspects of joint-ventures and structure of wholly owned subsidiaries including obtaining and maintaining all documentation required for FMOLHS insurance renewals.

3. Supports internal policies and procedures
    Assists with HR and Compliance issues as needed.
    Participates in the Enterprise Policy Site including review and drafting of policies for FMOLHS and its subsidiaries.

4. System Administrator and Software Trainer
    Analyzes application usage as required for eCounsel, Bridgeway and the Legal Hub.
    Partners with product support to provide continuous integration/delivery infrastructure for eCounsel, Bridgeway and the Legal Hub.
    Partners with product support on adoption and implementation of product improvement opportunities for eCounsel, Bridgeway and the Legal Hub.
    Partners with product support on development and design of training programs for CLM, eCounsel and the Enterprise Policy Site.
    Provides and conducts classroom-style training and support to over 500 customers for CLM, eCounsel and the Enterprise Policy Site.

5. Contract Division Management:
    Manages Legal Services Department contract templates including updates as required
    Drives continuous improvement of the quality of services provided including developing and implementing procedures regarding contracts and databases
    Assists in contract assignment distributions
    Ensures adherence to statutes and regulations by FMOLHS and its subsidiaries including compliance with the Ethical and Religious Directives

6. Department Management: 
    Responsible for coordination, security and audits of all outside law firm electronic billing.
    Responsible for research and correction of all Oracle integrations and failures related to outside law firm billing.
    Responsible for Billing Guidelines including adherence thereto by outside law firms.
    Provides consultation and expert advice on all eDiscovery aspects including management of litigation holds.
    Responsible for analysis of outside law firm billing as required for Medicare Cost Reports, Finance Audits and Legal Services Department budgets.

7. Supervises Paralegal and assistant team:

    Oversee and manage all Paralegals and Legal Secretaries within the Health System.
    Provides training to all Paralegals and Legal Secretaries within the Health System.

8. Other Duties as assigned.
