Job description

Planet Technologies, the Nation's leading Microsoft services provider to the public sector, is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our growing team as a Cloud Consultant. In this role, you will be supporting impactful projects that make a difference for our country. 
 

The Managed Services Cloud Engineer is responsible for partnering with clients to form a long-lasting relationship while assisting with their growth across the various cloud platform. This would cover a wide breadth of tasks from technical writing, security assessments, licensing questions or anything in or related to the AWS and Azure Cloud. Expertise in AWS, Linux and related core technologies is the primary driver for this position, including but not limited to Cloud Identities, Virtual Machines, Networking, Firewalls, Database and File Management, Functions, and Architecture. Azure cloud experience is a huge positive, and represents most of our active work today, so being able to work in both clouds is highly desired. Amazon Web Services experience with engineering and architect work, as well as Linux Expertise is required. This position will perform other duties as assigned and/or needed.

Qualifications
  • Deep knowledge of Linux OS and its supported technologies and systems
  • AWS Cloud experience and expertise
  • Azure Cloud experience and expertise
  • Cloud Core Platforms (AWS and Azure): Compute, Storage, Networking, Virtual Machines, Identity and Access Management (IAM Identity Center), Security and Compliance (AWS Security Hub), Federation with external identity Platforms, Infrastructure required
  • Experience with AWS or Azure Government highly desired
  • Kubernetes, containers, are highly desired
  • Governance experience is preferred
  • Linux System administrator experience, OS management, patching, application management, etc.
  • Linux experience with Red Hat Enterprise, Ubuntu and GNOME is desired
  • Any Linux Technical certifications are preferred, especially related to system administration at scale in Cloud environments.
  • Any AWS Technical certifications are preferred, especially related to the core technology stack of Amazon Web Services.

Essential Duties

As part of the Managed Services team, you are responsible for helping to foster long-term relationships and partnerships with our clients, going beyond just doing good technical work, and becoming a good co-worker, partner, and advisor.

  • Surface and analyze customer business requirements.
  • Translate requirements into an architectural design and influence the deployment of key infrastructure components
  • Design, construct, configure, and maintain all facets of an AWS Subscription/Tenants
  • Plan and execute an end-to-end implementation of the target workload
  • CI/CD development pipeline work
  • Troubleshooting AWS and Linux issues as our Subject Matter Expertise
  • Cost and performance optimization of server and cloud resources
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of existing and emerging Azure and related core technologies
  • Be up to date on new technologies within Azure that could benefit customers
  • Understand and be comfortable with multiple Azure technologies/products and be able to assist clients in the exploration, initial setup, and support of those technologies
  • Desired SME skillset for a few select technologies for which you could ask as the team's internal expert and escalation point. (Example - Infrastructure as a code, AKS, VMware, Linux, Database, Security, Virtual Desktop, AWS etc.)
  • Performs special projects and other duties as assigned.
