What is a Liner job?

A Liner is responsible for applying protective or insulating materials to surfaces such as pipes, tanks, or industrial equipment. This role is commonly found in industries like manufacturing, construction, and shipping, where liners help prevent corrosion, leaks, and wear. Duties may include measuring and cutting materials, applying adhesives or sealants, and ensuring proper installation for durability and safety. Liners must have attention to detail, knowledge of materials, and the ability to work in various environments.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Liner position, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Liner, you need a solid understanding of surface preparation, application of lining materials, and safe handling of industrial coatings, often supported by a high school diploma or relevant vocational training. Familiarity with tools such as spray guns, rollers, and industrial PPE, as well as certifications like OSHA safety training, is commonly required. Strong attention to detail, the ability to work as part of a team, and good time management are key soft skills for this position. These competencies help ensure high-quality, durable work that meets safety and project specifications within industrial or marine environments.

What does a typical workday look like for someone in a Liner role?

A typical day for a Liner involves preparing surfaces, mixing and applying protective lining materials using various tools, and ensuring consistent quality throughout the project. Liners often work as part of a crew in environments such as shipyards, construction sites, or industrial facilities, frequently following safety protocols and project timelines. Collaboration with supervisors, inspectors, and other trades is common to ensure adherence to specifications and timely project completion. This role can involve physical labor and occasional overtime, but it offers valuable hands-on experience and opportunities to advance to supervisory or quality control positions.
