JOB SUMMARY
The Linehaul Driver Manager position consists of the management of linehaul drivers in a service center or region and collaboration with the Linehaul Director, Operations Team, and Service Center Manager to operate an efficient linehaul operation. This role is directly responsible for managing the staffing requirements for linehaul drivers, ensuring the timely execution of linehaul operations to meet service commitments, and securing the availability of equipment for linehauls within the designated regions, all while maintaining cost-effectiveness. Works proactively with departments to ensure customers' needs are met and leads a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Personnel Management
Hires, trains, and develops linehaul drivers to meet operational needs
Directs and schedules linehaul drivers to ensure adequate coverage for all routes
Prepares and conducts informal and formal performance evaluations
Assists with time-off requests and schedules backup for adequate coverage
Conducts weekly and/or daily meetings with drivers to discuss problems, projects, issues, or updates
Addresses employee problems or concerns; informs the Linehaul Director of personnel issues and performance
Applies the progressive discipline policy when necessary to correct behavior
Be available to linehaul drivers and provide them needed support
Ensure linehaul drivers are paid accurately in every pay cycle and that the pay scale is competitive in the market
Manages linehaul driver morale through regular engagement, recognition, and addressing concerns promptly
Operations Management
Ensures linehaul drivers report on-time and manage their time efficiently to achieve high levels of service with on-time dispatch and arrivals of linehauls at all service centers within and across regions
Ensures linehaul driver staffing levels are met with internal resources, owner-operators, and third-party resources when needed
Ensures linehaul service continuity during staff time-offs, weather events, mechanical issues, or any other expected and unexpected disruptions
Ensures service centers are always sourced with needed linehaul equipment
Enhances and improves the linehaul network within and across regions as new requirements arise
Collaborates closely with the Operations Team and Service Center Manager to coordinate linehaul activities and resolve issues
Supports the operations team to ensure load factor, linehaul average minutes late, linehaul scanning percentages, and load configurations goals are met
Performs the essential duties of Dispatch as needed
Communicates with other operations personnel to resolve operational issues
Compliance & Safety
Investigates, files written reports, and takes corrective action in response to accidents/injuries
Reviews telematics data with drivers to improve driving skills
Performs driver ride-alongs to observe driving practices, provide coaching, and ensure compliance with safety protocols
Manages linehaul drivers' compliance with training and safety standards
Ensures adherence to Company safety policies and procedures
Ensures adherence to all applicable DOT, state, and local regulatory requirements
Conducts a minimum of 3 Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) audits per week
Regularly reviews driver post-trip inspections to ensure maintenance issues are reported correctly and timely
Performs periodic vehicle cleanliness inspections
Ensures drivers maintain a professional appearance and conduct themselves professionally at all times
Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds
Must possess excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication (written and verbal), analytical, and decision-making skills
Extensive knowledge of the principles, procedures, and best practices in the transportation industry
Previous driver/fleet experience required
Knowledge of DOT, state, and local regulatory requirements
Aptitude to problem-solve and utilize troubleshooting skills
Projects professional image in a business setting
Independent thinker with the ability to engage team members
Knowledge of and ability to use personal computer, spreadsheet, and word processing software
High School diploma required
4 years of experience managing linehauls, drivers, or relevant management experience
Experience in the LTL industry preferred
