Lighting Sales Specialist

This position reports to:

Market Development & Regional Sales Manager

The Lighting Sales Specialist promotes ABB's full range of lighting solutions (products and services) across Alberta, Saskatchewan and British Columbia. This role works closely with customers, distributors, agents, consultants, and internal teams to drive sustainable sales growth, profitability, and market share.

The specialist reports to the Regional Manager and works remotely. The ideal candidate is based in Alberta. This role supports the Electrification, Smart Buildings division of ABB Canada.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify customer and market needs and provide technical lighting solutions aligned with ABB's product portfolio.
  • Support customers, branches, and sales representatives with lighting design, product recommendations, technical guidance, and application expertise.
  • Develop new business opportunities and expand market penetration within the region.
  • Analyze regional market conditions, competitive landscape, and growth opportunities; contribute to and execute regional and national business plans.
  • Support marketing initiatives, promotions, and product launches.
  • Assist with lighting audits and prepare customer proposals, including ROI analysis (energy savings, maintenance costs, operational efficiency, environmental impact).
  • Review lighting layouts and drawings for accuracy, code compliance, and optimal product selection.
  • Develop project specifications and recommend appropriate technologies to ensure optimal solutions.
  • Collaborate with inside sales, customer service, factory support, agents, and branch managers to ensure smooth project execution and customer satisfaction.
  • Deliver training and technical presentations to customers, distributors, and internal teams.
  • Participate in trade shows, seminars, and ongoing professional development to maintain technical expertise.
  • Maintain accurate sales records and provide market feedback, forecasts, and inventory input as required.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies and proper use of company assets.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of sales experience in the electrical industry (Agent, distribution, manufacturing, or contractor sales) preferred.
  • Post Secondary education.
  • LC designation is an asset; willingness to obtain it is required.
  • IES Fundamentals of Lighting (or equivalent) completed or obtained within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Strong technical knowledge of lighting products, applications, and photometric principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Strong presentation, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a sales team environment.
  • Strong business acumen with understanding of market trends, competitive positioning, and sales strategy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint).
