Job description

Light Equipment Operator

Position Summary

Sheffield Precision Building is seeking a dependable and motivated Light Equipment Operator to join our team. This position involves operating construction equipment, driving trucks and trailers, delivering materials and equipment, and assisting with site development for new residential construction projects.

Responsibilities

  • Operate skid steers, mini excavators, and excavators safely and efficiently.
  • Drive trucks and pull trailers to transport equipment and materials between job sites.
  • Deliver, place, move, and retrieve roll-off dumpsters as needed.
  • Clear and prepare lots for new home construction.
  • Perform grading and site preparation work.
  • Dig footers and foundations.
  • Install septic systems and related site utilities.
  • Conduct daily equipment inspections and maintain a clean, safe work environment.
  • Perform routine maintenance on trucks and equipment, including oil changes, brake service, greasing, and other preventative maintenance tasks.
  • Assist with general construction and site work as needed.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience operating skid steers and excavators required.
  • Experience driving trucks and pulling equipment trailers required.
  • Ability to safely load, transport, and unload construction equipment.
  • Mechanical aptitude and experience performing routine maintenance on diesel trucks and equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of grading, excavation, septic installation, and site development is a plus.
  • Valid driver's license required; CDL is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Dependable, self-motivated, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Preferred Experience

  • Residential site development and land clearing.
  • Septic system installation.
  • Equipment maintenance and repair.
  • Diesel engine and hydraulic system knowledge.
