Job description

Description

The lifeguard's primary duty is to ensure the safety of the public by preventing, recognizing, and responding effectively to emergencies. Address all emergencies and incidents in the Murphy Aquatic Park with confidentiality. Must always interact with public in a professional manner. 

  • Scanning assigned zones of protection, patron rule enforcement, proper time management of rotations and providing safety assistance, rescues, emergency actions and first aid when necessary, according to the protocols established by Washington Township and the Parks Department. 
  • Immediate reporting of any hazardous conditions to supervisor, including inability to properly scan zone due to weather or other conditions.
  • Will maintain minimum number of in-service hours required by the department.
  • Will assist with cleaning and policing grounds, pool deck and bathhouse facilities.
  • May also assist with pool vacuuming and special event equipment set-up tear-down; involves lifting and/or other labor intensive duties.
  • May assist with supervision of volunteers and/or program participants
  • May assist with teaching, coaching or assisting with lessons, swim team and other programs and special events at location in accordance with park staff and authorized instructors.
  • May assist with water testing, accidents reports, program registrations and other operational reports and records.
  • Follows all policies and procedure as described by the Township and Parks Department.
  • Be comfortable and able to teach ages 3 - 12 how to swim
  • Be able to communicate with parents/guardians in a professional manner representing Washington Township Park and Washington Township.
  • Be able to pass all requirements set for by Starguard Elite Lifeguard certifications.
  • Other related duties as assigned.



Requirements

  • 15 years of age or older
  • Lifeguard experience preferred, but will train
  • Completed or ability to complete First Aid, CPR/AED and Lifeguard certifications
  • Must obtain and submit a full criminal history background check
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Ability to project enthusiasm and sternness as needed
  • Ability to work in a team setting 
  • Reliable transportation to and from the site
  • Ability to act quickly and calmly in emergency situations, making proper judgments as to the correct course of action
  • Ability to stay abreast of changes in policy, procedures, methods, and department needs
  • Ability to enforce all Murphy Aquatic Park rules and regulations. 
  • Ability to report emergency conditions and situations through the proper channels. 
  • Ability to provide documentation and reports involving accidents and emergencies. 
  • Ability to Inspect the pool and surrounding areas on a daily schedule and report unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor. 
  • Ability to participate in in-service training.Â
