What is a life design coach?

A Life Design coach is a professional who helps individuals intentionally create and navigate their personal and professional lives using principles of design thinking. They guide clients in identifying their values, setting meaningful goals, and crafting actionable plans to achieve a fulfilling life. Life Design coaches often use exercises and tools to encourage creativity, reflection, and resilience, empowering people to adapt and thrive amid life's changes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a life design coach?

To thrive as a Life Design Coach, you need expertise in coaching methodologies, personal development frameworks, and often a background in psychology or counseling, supported by relevant certifications like ICF or similar. Familiarity with coaching tools, assessment systems, and digital platforms for virtual sessions is commonly required. Excellent active listening, empathy, and motivational communication skills help build trust and empower clients to make lasting changes. These skills and qualifications are essential for guiding clients through self-discovery and helping them achieve their personal and professional goals.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in life design roles when helping clients navigate major life transitions?

Professionals in Life Design roles often encounter challenges such as helping clients overcome uncertainty and resistance to change during major life transitions like career shifts, retirement, or personal reinvention. It can be complex to guide individuals in clarifying their values, identifying meaningful goals, and developing actionable plans, especially when clients face self-doubt or external pressures. Building trust, fostering open communication, and offering tailored strategies are essential skills for Life Design professionals to effectively support their clients through these transitions.

Recruiting for this role ends on November 1, 2026

Work you'll do

This role is ideal for someone who is equally comfortable shaping experience vision and driving cross-functional execution through launch and adoption. You will work across strategy, design, product, and engineering to ensure concepts become real, measurable solutions, used by patients and/or providers in production.

As a Manager, you will be responsible for:

  • Leading engagements that define experience and product strategy for Life Sciences clients across patient services, user engagement, and commercial operations
  • Partnering with client commercial, digital, and patient services leaders to define and deliver experience strategies and products that meet patient and provider needs and drive business outcomes.
  • Translating business and user challenges into structured design strategies, insights, product visions, roadmaps, release priorities, and measurable outcomes
  • Connecting experience strategy to digital product delivery by aligning design intent with epics, features, user stories, MVP definitions, and delivery plans that product and engineering teams can execute
  • Partner closely with product, engineering, data, and business stakeholders to move from concept through build, launch, and iteration.
  • Guide teams in prioritization, trade-off decisions, dependency management, and release planning to drive delivery with speed and clarity.
  • Understand which AI-enabled tools and modern ways of working can accelerate research synthesis, concept development, and product planning and champion usage.
  • Managing client relationships, facilitating working sessions, and overseeing scope, timelines, risks, and dependencies across design workstreams
  • Supporting practice growth through proposals, solution shaping, workplans, and team coaching
  • Champion and advocate for the role of design both with clients and while coaching and developing teams

A successful candidate would possess these skills:

  • Ability to stretch from framing ambiguous business problems through roadmap definition, build planning, launch through close collaboration with design, product and engineering leaders
  • Agile product delivery practices to align user value, business value, and technical feasibility throughout execution.
  • Experience overseeing roadmap creation, backlog shaping, prototyping, MVP scoping, and release planning.
  • Strong executive storytelling and team leadership

The Team

An evolving customer and regulatory landscape, mounting pipeline of next-gen assets and portfolio pressures, and intensifying competition are presenting new organizational and operational hurdles for Life Sciences companies. These complex market dynamics are requiring new levels of rigor and insight in experience strategy, digital product design, and patient-centered solutions, both domestically and globally.

We are looking for practitioners who will work alongside Life Sciences organizations, from biotechnology firms to global big pharma to medical device companies, to drive business value through end-to-end delivery of experience design strategies that connect human insight to commercial impact.

  • 6+ years of experience in digital product design and delivery, including product management, roadmapping, user story development, and agile delivery
  • 6+ years of experience leading design-led innovation processes including but not limited to conducting or leading design research/user interviews, journey mapping, service blueprinting, and/or concepting
  • 1+ years of experience using artificial intelligence tools in day-to-day workflow
  • Ability to travel 30%, on average, based on the work you do and the clients and industries/sectors you serve.
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without the need for employer sponsorship, now or at any time in the future.

Preferred:

  • Experience presenting recommendations and deliverables to executive stakeholders
  • Experience managing engagements involving multiple stakeholder groups across design, commercial, digital, and product functions
  • Experience using data, analytics, and artificial intelligence-enabled tools in consulting, strategy, or product delivery
