What is life cycle management?

Life cycle management (LCM) refers to the process of overseeing and optimizing a product, system, or project from its initial conception through design, production, use, and eventual disposal or recycling. The goal of LCM is to maximize value, efficiency, and sustainability at every stage of the product's life while minimizing costs and environmental impact. LCM is used across various industries to ensure products remain competitive, compliant, and environmentally responsible throughout their existence.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in life cycle management?

To excel in Life Cycle Management, you need expertise in product development, project management, and supply chain principles, often supported by a background in engineering or business. Familiarity with ERP systems, PLM (Product Lifecycle Management) software, and relevant certifications like PMP or Six Sigma is valuable. Strong analytical thinking, problem-solving, and effective cross-functional communication distinguish top performers in this role. These competencies ensure efficient product transitions, cost control, and sustained product value throughout the lifecycle.
