Job Description
The Director - Epic Revenue Cycle is responsible for strategic leadership, implementation, optimization, and ongoing support of Epic Revenue Cycle applications across the organization. This role serves as the senior owner of Epic revenue cycle systems, ensuring efficient, compliant, and high performing workflows that support financial performance, patient access, billing accuracy, and regulatory requirements. The Director leads large, cross functional teams and partners closely with Revenue Cycle leadership, Finance, Operations, Compliance, and IT to deliver Epic solutions that align technology with business and financial goals. This role has direct accountability for Epic revenue cycle implementations, upgrades, integrations, and post go live optimization.
Responsibilities
Epic Revenue Cycle Strategy & Governance
o Serve as executive owner for Epic Revenue Cycle modules, including but not limited to:
o Prelude, Cadence, RTE, Grand Central
o Resolute PB & HB
o Claims & Remittance, Tapestry
o Develop and maintain the multiyear Epic Revenue Cycle roadmap aligned with organizational financial strategy
o Establish and oversee Epic revenue cycle governance, prioritization, and change control processes
o Ensure Epic build and workflows support revenue integrity, patient experience, and regulatory compliance
o Act as escalation point for high impact Epic revenue cycle issues and risks
o Provide functional governance and oversight for third party revenue cycle solutions (e.g., clearinghouses, patient access tools, automation, denial management, payment platforms) that interface with or influence Epic revenue cycle performance
o Ensure third party solutions align with Epic design standards, data integrity, security requirements, and revenue cycle strategy
o Partner with IT and Procurement to support vendor selection, contract review, performance management, and integration strategy related to Epic revenue cycle dependencies
Epic Implementation & Deployment (Core Responsibility)
o Lead all phases of Epic Revenue Cycle implementations, expansions, and upgrades, including initial Epic system implementation, module rollouts and phased deployments, revenue cycle integrations, Epic upgrades, foundation changes and system conversions.
o Ownership of implementation planning, scope definition, resource planning, timelines, and budgets
o Partner with Revenue Cycle leadership to design and approve future state workflows for access, billing, claims, collections, and reporting
o Ensure Epic build adheres to Epic best practices, organizational standards, and compliance requirements
o Coordinate design, build, testing, training, go live, and stabilization activities
o Lead go-live execution and post go live command center operations
o Ensure third party revenue cycle tools are appropriately designed, tested, and integrated to support Epic-centric workflows
o Maintain Epic as the system of record while ensuring effective interoperability with external vendors
Revenue Cycle Partnership & Stakeholder Engagement
o Serve as a trusted advisor to Revenue Cycle, Finance, Managed Care, Patient Access, and Compliance leaders
o Translate business and financial requirements into effective Epic solutions
o Partner with Clinical, Analytics, and IT Infrastructure and vendor partners teams to align end-to-end workflows
o Advise leadership on the operational and financial impact of third-party tools within the Epic revenue cycle ecosystem
o Provide regular communication to executive leadership on progress, risks, and outcomes
Team Leadership & Talent Development
o Lead, mentor, and develop Epic Revenue Cycle managers, analysts, and support staff
o Build and maintain strong internal Epic capability through training, certification, and succession planning
o Ensure appropriate coverage for support, maintenance, and on call needs
o Foster a high-performance, accountable, and customer focused team culture
Optimization, Support & Financial Performance
o Drive continuous optimization of Epic revenue cycle workflows and system performance
o Monitor Epic revenue cycle KPIs, denials trends, cash flow metrics, and user satisfaction
o Assess the effectiveness of third-party solutions supporting Epic revenue cycle operations and recommend enhancements, replacements, or consolidations as needed
o Partner with Revenue Cycle leaders to identify system improvements that increase efficiency and reduce revenue leakage
o Prioritize and manage enhancements, defect resolution, and technical debt
o Support reporting, analytics, and automation initiatives tied to Epic revenue cycle data
Compliance, Risk & Security
o Ensure Epic revenue cycle systems comply with CMS, HIPAA, payer rules, and regulatory requirements
o Collaborate with Compliance, Audit, and Information Security to ensure third party systems meet organizational and regulatory standards
o Support business continuity, downtime procedures, and disaster recovery related to Epic revenue cycle systems
o Coordinate Epic implementations and upgrades alongside related third party system integrations
Work Environment
o Onsite
o Extended hours required during Epic go lives and major implementations.
o Occasional travel, as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
o Bachelor's degree in information systems, Healthcare Administration, Business, Finance, or related field
o 5-7+ years of healthcare IT leadership experience, including management of IT revenue cycle teams
o Strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycle operations and workflows
o Epic certification(s) in requested modules required or ability to obtain within defined timeframe.
o Experience managing budgets, vendors, and cross functional initiatives
o Excellent executive communication and stakeholder management skills
Preferred Qualifications
o Master's degree (Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Information Systems, or similar)
o Demonstrated experience leading Epic Revenue Cycle implementations or large-scale deployments
o Epic certifications in Revenue Cycle modules (Prelude, Resolute PB/HB, Cadence, etc.)
o Experience in large health systems or organizations with multiple entities
o Experience with Epic Community Connect, M&A integration, or payer connectivity initiatives
o Knowledge of value-based care and payer contracting workflows
