Job Description:

The Paralegal role will partner with the News/OTV (Owned Television Group)/Digital team and the Media Networks team, both part of the Legal Affairs, Disney Entertainment News & Networks Group.

The News/OTV/Digital team supports all of the transactional and contract needs of, and provides legal/business affairs counsel to, ABC News (including production, talent, digital, ABC News Live, audio, video archives, news services, news operations, and ABC News long form programming), the Owned Television Station Group (including program acquisition, production, talent, digital, vendors, and events), and Disney Entertainment Television Digital, as well as other miscellaneous Disney Entertainment Television business units.

The Media Networks Team provides legal support (contracts and advice/counsel) for Program Acquisitions, Franchise Management, Research & Insights, Networks Business Operations, and Cable Networks Regulatory Team.

What You Will Do:

The Paralegal will receive assignments daily and weekly from the attorneys, with some projects being more long-term and/or recurring.The attorneys would prioritize the projects for the Paralegal and oversee (as necessary) the tasks and work product, with the assigning attorney responsible for the end-product.

  • Support the lawyers focusing on the drafting, researching, preparation, and organization of a variety of contracts, including production, talent, NDAs, program and clip licenses, vendors, events, and other simple agreements, managing the contract process through to completion and signature.
  • Assist in creating, updating, and managing forms and legal documents used by this team.
  • Assist in organizing and maintaining contract and information databases.
  • Facilitate deal interpretation questions under the supervision of an attorney.
  • Perform special projects and other related duties as assigned or requested.
  • Periodically, as needed, back up the paralegals on this team's NY-based group and collaborate with them on special projects.
  • Assist in the clearance of program content and/or other client related projects under the management and direction of a team attorney.
  • Remain up to date on company/legal practices, protocols and systems.

Required Qualifications & Skills:

  • 1 year of related experience
  • Familiarity with Contracts
  • Strong organization and time management skills and attention to detail
  • Excellent work ethic and interpersonal skills, including a healthy sense of humor and the ability to build professional relationships

Education:

A Bachelor's Degree and/or qualifications to be a paralegal by certification or education and work experience as set forth by the American Bar Association and/or any applicable state codes

The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
