Job description

Library Clerk

The library clerk is responsible for assisting the librarian in pursuing the mission of the library. Duties may include greeting students, teachers, visitors with a positive and open mind, exhibiting enthusiasm for the many aspects of the work and actively developing an atmosphere of teamwork. The library clerk also remains mindful of the operations of the library and pitches in where necessary. They answer reference questions and assist students and staff in locating library materials, using the library catalog, and using online databases. They assist with computer/equipment circulation, stay current with the latest information technology in order to facilitate student and teacher access to resources and library program, and oversee student sign-in. They check in and shelve materials, collect lost library book fines, and update student library records. They check out library materials, update the library catalog as requested by the librarian, and prepare library materials for circulation. They mend damaged or worn materials and equipment, conduct inventory as directed by the librarian, conduct shelf reading, clean computers as needed, clean/dust library bookshelves and tables as necessary, answer the library phone, take messages, and retrieve messages. Building specific duties include assisting teachers and students with printers/copiers, entering Help Tickets for machine repair or issues, decorating bulletin boards and other areas of the library, operate and change laminator as needed. Other duties as assigned by the librarian.
