The Tech Writer II is a mid-level position responsible for developing and refining comprehensive documentation for complex aerospace and defense projects. This role involves working closely with subject matter experts to create clear, accurate, and detailed technical documents. As a Tech Writer II, you will utilize various engineering resources and conduct detailed reviews to ensure that all documentation meets the highest standards.The ISR (Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance), Aviation, and Security (IAS) business area is a leader in ISR and aviation, it is a leading prime manned and unmanned aircraft systems integrator for innovative, high-performance ISR and aviation systems. Its end-to-end Command, Control, Computers, Communications and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance (C4ISR) capabilities encompass design, integration, test, certification, ground/flight training and complete logistics support. IAS tailors solutions to customer cost, performance, and schedule requirements and designs to consistently exceed expectations - with an unrivaled record of on time and on (or under) budget deliveries.

Responsibilities:


  • Plan and participate in the preparation of Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) documents, various engineering documents, test plans and procedures, and operator and maintenance manuals.
  • Write and edit engineering documentation in support of program objectives
  • Coordinate with Configuration Management (CM) staff to input documents into the CM software and route them through the review/approval/release process.
  • Assist in the creation and maintenance of documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources.
  • Support internal technical reference documentation, including data libraries, training material, and process/procedure guides.


Qualifications You Must Have:


  • Bachelor's degree in Technical Writing or related field of study
  • 2+ years of experience in technical writing or a related field within the aerospace and defense industry.

  • A higher-level degree may substitute for experience
  • Related experience may be considered in lieu of required education
  • Knowledge of technical writing principles, practices, and standards
  • Understanding of desktop publishing tools, including publishing features of Microsoft Word
  • Experience in other elements of Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe publishing tools and editing, layout, and production of technical documents, which includes graphics, tables, and other embedded content
  • Experience working in multi-disciplinary design and development teams
  • Excellent communication skills, via multiple platforms (e.g., instant messaging, email, phone, video conference, etc.)
  • Effective problem-solving skills
  • Detail-oriented


Qualifications We Prefer:


  • Experience in Contract Data Requirements List (CDRL) preparation, technical documentation, test plans, procedures, and technical or operations manuals
  • Experience preparing documentation with minimal input (written or verbal) from subject matter experts, such as design engineers and program managers, to prepare initial drafts and templates
  • Familiarity working with internal teams to obtain an in-depth understanding of product and documentation requirements
  • Ability to verify content meets applicable standards and is appropriate for its intended audience
  • Prior experience creating and maintaining documentation templates, layout guides, and graphics resources
  • Understanding of internal technical reference documentation, including data libraries, training material, process/procedure guides
  • Knowledge of techniques for reviewing, editing, and formatting business proposals, product management documents, Request for Proposal (RFP) responses, marketing communications, and other organizational documents as requested
  • Experience with document control software, such as Product Data Management (PDM) or Product Lifecycle Management (PLM)
  • Background in the Aerospace and Defense Industry or DoD

  • Ability to work on a computer for extended periods, including proficiency with documentation tools and software.
  • Manual dexterity for operating a computer and creating detailed documentation.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 lbs occasionally.
  • Must be able to work in an office or hybrid environment.
  • Ability to travel occasionally as required by project needs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members and stakeholders.
  • Ability to adapt to changing project requirements, tools, and technologies in a fast paced industry.
