Job description

Job Title:  Library Media Specialist                                                           Wage/Hour Status:    Exempt
Reports To:   Director of Library Media                                            Pay Grade:  AP 3 188 Days

Primary Purpose:
To provide instructional resources and information services to administrators, faculty, and students; to maintain an enriched educational environment containing a wide variety of materials that will invite intellectual growth; and to aid all students in acquiring the skills needed to take full advantage of information technology and work in a complimentary and cooperative manner with building and district staff.
Qualifications:
Education:





  • Master's degree in Library Science.
  • A valid Texas teacher's certificate or such other credentials as may be required by the State Board for Educator Certification for this position.

           
Special Knowledge/Skills

  • Knowledge of library and information science
  • Ability to instruct and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills     

Preferred Experience:

  • Two years creditable classroom teaching experience
  • Library/Media Center experience in public school setting preferred.

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Solicit actively recommendations from teachers and staff to modify the collection based on identified curriculum needs.
  • Provide materials and bibliographies for "classroom teaching" support.
  • Offer periodic training for instructional applications of new technologies.
  • Participate actively in curriculum planning and implementation on a regular basis.
  • Inform teachers and students about the appropriate techniques of electronic data access and how to use most effectively the materials and equipment in the media center using a structured instructional approach.
  • Employ strategies to help students internalize behaviors for independent research and develop skills in information management to complete academic assignments successfully.
  • Assist students and staff in the appropriate selection of books and other instructional materials.
  • Plan and participate in cooperative community involvement.
  • Arrange media-related displays and exhibits which involve staff and students and correlate to current curriculum topics.
  • Provide annual reports to the district coordinator as requested.
  • Prepare and administer the media center budget in cooperation with the campus principal.
  • Perform clerical tasks as indicated in district policies and procedures for libraries.
  • Maximize opportunities for professional growth through staff development and active participation in professional organizations and district coordinated programs.
  • Take an active role as the campus leader for the instructional use of multi-media applications and new educational technologies.
