Summary
Performs paraprofessional level duties to assist the Reference department, hosts programming, and maintains library collection materials.
Essential Functions
  • Provides excellent customer service to all patrons and coworkers at all times;
  • Assist patrons in the use of library facilities, technology, and materials;
  • Develop and implement special library programs;
  • Assist patrons with the use of the computerized library catalog;
  • Assist in processing books which are being checked in or out;
  • Keep up with inventory and order supplies when needed;
  • Explain and enforce library policies and procedures to library users and staff;
  • Provide training to new employees;
  • Take part in library outreach endeavors;
  • Evening and weekend hours required;
  • Perform related duties as directed.
Qualifications
Completion of a bachelor's degree in a related field with an additional one to three years of experience working in library services, teaching or education field, or other experience providing programs to children or adults; or any combination of relevant education and experience which provides the following:
Knowledge and Abilities
Knowledge of:
  • Library ILS (SirsiDynix preferred)
  • Library organization, policies, and procedures;
  • Program development and implementation;
  • Customer service skills;
  • A variety of library materials, resources, and technology.
Ability to:
  • Promote library services and public relations;
  • Communicate effectively with others.
Physical Requirements
  • Occasionally lift and carry up to 10 pounds
  • Occasionally walk and stand during a shift
  • Occasionally flex upper trunk forward at the waist and partially flex at the knees
  • Place arms above, at or below shoulder height
